    Woman Dies On Visit Here
    Mrs. Frances Wagner, 66 years, widow of the late Robert Wagner, of Reading, died suddenly at the home of her nephew, Willard Wagner, at 30 minutes past midnight Sunday night. She had been stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage about midnight, and died before medical aid arrived.
    Mrs. Wagner had come to Tower City to visit relatives, having spent the first week with her nephew, Lester Shomper, and family, and on the day she was stricken came to the home of Mr. Wagner to visit with his family for a week.
    She was a former resident of Orwim, having lelt this valley about twenty-five years ago to reside in Philadelphia, where the family made their home until the death of her husband two years ago. Since that time she had resided with an only son, Herbert Wagner, at Reading. She was a native of the Hegins valley and before her marriage was Miss Frances Saltzer. One sister and one brother, residing in Reading, also survive. A foster son, John Shomper, of Philadelphia, also survives. He was a son of the late John Shomper of Tower City, whose mother died while he was an infant, and the baby was taken into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shomper [Wagner?] and raised by them.
    The remains were removed to Reading, from which place the funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 clock. Attending tne funeral from Tower City will be Mr. and Mrs. Willard Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Shomper, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Shomper, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Shomper, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shomper and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Shomper.

    GRATZ • Mrs. Hannah Joanna Maurer, 95, peacefully died Dec. 30, 2020. She was born Nov. 20, 1925, in Lykens Twp., a daughter of the late Ralph F. Dockey and Amelia C. (Scheib) Dockey. Her husband, Robert E. Maurer, died in 2010. She also was preceded in death by her two siblings, Hilda and George. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Miller and her husband Ken of Gratz; three grandchildren, Amelia Bellis and her husband Dana of Millersburg, Jana Hoover and her husband Brent of Halifax, and Robert Miller and his wife Cortney of Millersburg and four great-grandchildren, Kennadie, Roman, Presley and Gianna. Hannah was a graduate of the former Berrysburg High School. When her beloved Robert went to Germany, Hannah did her part for the war cause. She inspected shells for accuracy and use by the military. Upon Robert’s return, she married the love of her life and worked as a talented seamstress until the birth of their daughter. Hannah was a member of Simeon United Lutheran Church, Gratz. She was a member of the Willing Workers, a former Sunday school teacher, a tutor to migrant children and a member of the Tri-Valley Senior Citizens, and she enjoyed bowling in the local leagues. She and Robert spent hours maintaining a large garden, which they generously shared with those who enjoyed their harvest. The life she lived was blessed with faith, family and service. She and Robert enjoyed their time making their famous pumpkin rolls to share with others. They enjoyed traveling abroad and stateside, which carried over into cherished mystery trips with her grands. There is nothing she loved better than taking care of her grandchildren and enjoying her great-grandchildren. She was always their No. 1 fan. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
