Shirley Jane Gray
July 24, 1941 - August 9, 2021
hirley Jane Gray passed away on August 9, 2021. She was 80.
Shirley was born on July 24, 1941, to the late Earl and Elsie Eckman. She was a life-long resident of King of Prussia, prior to moving to Kent Island, MD, later in life. Shirley enjoyed a fun childhood which included living on Norview Farm in King of Prussia, riding her horse, Rusty, and taking care of their bull, Whitey. Shirley graduated from Upper Merion High School in 1959 and later from West Chester State College. She worked in her home-town as a waitress, with many locals remembering her from her many years at Michaels Italian Restaurant.
Shirley absolutely loved being with family. Her biggest joy was spending time with her grandkids attending their many events and taking them to Valley Forge Park to climb on the trees and enjoy being outside together. She always had cold chocolate milk waiting for them in her refrigerator when they came to visit. She was also active in the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Shirley is survived by her two sons, Jim Gray (Nancy) of King of Prussia, PA, and Dean Gray (Kim) of Chester, MD; five grandchildren, Danielle Gray, Matthew Gray (Amanda), Lauren Gray, Andrew Gray, and Spencer Gray; and one great-granddaughter, Sophia Rose Gray.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 10am to 11am on Friday, August 13, at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Rd. in Chester, MD. A service will follow at 11am. Burial is private.4
