Mrs. Ellsworth Schwalm
Mrs. Ellsworth Schwalm, aged 52 years, nee Emma Saltzer, died at her home at Valley View after a two weeks' illness of rheumatic fever. [T]he funeral was held on, Wednesday forenoon, with burial in the U. B. cemetery, Rev.
H. M. Mentzer officiating.
The deceased had been an active member of the United Brethren Sunday school and Church, and a woman of sterling christian character. She is survived by her husband, her father, William O. Saltzer, and the following children: Gurney and Millard at Valley View; Alma, wife of Daniel Willard, Perry, Iowa; Hattie, wife of Leroy Keisling, Tower City; Harvey, Houston, Texas; Beatrice, Lillian and Gladys at home.
The following brothers and sisters also survive: James Saltzer, Indianapolis; Harvey Austin Saltzer, Sacramento; Mrs. Elmer Shoop, Enterline; Mrs. Geo. Minnich, Hegins; and Mrs. Ed. Scott at Lynn, Mass., also six grandchildren.

- Alma and Daniel apparently separated, possibly divorced, some time after 1926. In the 1930, 19940, and 1950 Census listings they are living apart. In 1930, she was living as a boarder in Philadelphia where she was a dressmaker. She was listed as "married." At the same time, Daniel was living as a loidger in a different household. Alma apparently remained in Philadelphia, while Daniel moved back to Schuylkill County before 1940.5,6,7,8

Alma Williard
Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Schwalm Williard, who died at Greystone Nursing Home, Germantown, Wednesday, were held at the Buffington Funeral Home, Saturday. Rev. Uhren of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Philadelphia, officiated. Interment was in St. Andrew's United Methodist Cemetery, Valley View.
Mrs. Williard was born in Valley View Sept. 29, 1891, a daughter of the late Ellsworth and Emma Saltzer, Schwalm. She resided in the
Philadelphia area for many years.
Surviving are brothers Gurney Schwalm of Sacramento and Albert Schwalm of Panama Canal Zone; sister, Mrs. Hattie. Keisling, Valley View; Mrs. Beatrice E. Luce, Wormleysburg; Mrs. Lillian Marzolf, Mrs. Gladys Savidge, both of New Cumberland; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Millard Schwalm, Valley View; also nieces and nephews.
Casketbearers were Mark Kimmel, Lee Warfield, Wilson Schwalm, George Schwalm, George Savidge, Glenn Kimmel.

- Albert Ellsworth Schwalm married Martha Elizabeth Ney, daughter of Rufus Ney and Nellie Agnes Hoffman, on 23 February 1929, St. Andrew's Church Parsonage, Valley View, Schuylkill County, PA.1,4,5
- In the Spring of 1939, Albert re-enlisted in the US Army in Pottsville. He had previously served froom October 31, 1923 to October 30, n1926. A newspaper account indicated that he would "be assigned to duty either in Panama or Hawaii." The 1940 Census confirms that he was assigned to Panama, as he is listed among the residents of Brua Point Military Reservation (also called Fort Kobbe), one of the installations that guarded the Canal. According to Department of Veterans Affairs Records, Albert was discharged from the Army May 1, 1940. Apparently he remained in Panama for quite some time. The 1950 Census lists him as a tractor operator employed by the Army the Balboa District of Panama. He was married to a black woman named "Daira O. Schwalm," who was born in Columbia. Their household included an 11-year old "son" named Albert F. Schwalm, who was also listed as black. It is unknown whether he was a step-son or biological son of Albert.6,7,8,9,10

Services for Wilson E. Schwalm, 80, of Sacramento, who died Sunday afternoon at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, where he had been a patient since Feb. 9, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from St. Paul's United Church of Christ Church, Sacramento, with the Revs. Winfield E. Engler, Palmyra, and Donald Morgan, Sunbury, officiating. Interment will be in Salem United Methodist Cemetery, Weishample. There will be no calling hours Wednesday evening. Stephen R. Rothermal Funeral Home, RD1 Klingerstown, is in charge of arrangements.
Prior to entering the hospital, he had been a resident of .Tremont Nursing Home since Nov. 24.
Born in Valley View, Oct 20, 1912, he was a son of the late Gurney and Mary Shale Schwalm. He attended Hegins Township schools.
Mr. Schwalm was a retired coal miner, having last been employed by the former Morgan and Harner Coal Co., Valley View, retiring in 1960.
He was a member of St Paul's UCC, a charter member of Sacramento Community Fire Company and a member of Tri-Valley His-torial Society and Tri-Valley Senior Citizens, both of Valley View.
His first wife, the former Arlene Morgan, died Sept 23, 1973, and his second wife, the former Dorothy Rothermel, died Feb. 26, 1991.
Surviving are a daughter, Diane Ressler, Valley View; a son, Walter R., Hegins; three brothers, Mark, Lykens, and George and Frank, both of Valley View; three sisters, Catherine Warfield, Tower City, Emma Stokes, Valley View, and Mary Runkle, Spring Glen; five grandchildren.

Born in Valley View, May 24, 1915 a daughter of the late Gurney and Mary Shadle Schwalm.
Catherine was a 1933 graduate of Hegins Twp. High School.
She was a homemaker and assisted her late husband Lee in operating the former Esso/Exxon gas station in Reinerton for 40 years.
She was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Reinerton and its women's organization. She was also a member of the former Porter Tower Flower Club.
She enjoyed gardening and flower arranging. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family, who will deeply miss her.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Lee "Sully" Warfield, 2003; an infant son Kenneth; four brothers, Wilson, George, Mark and Frank Schwalm, two sisters, Emma Stokes and Mary Jane Runkle.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Thompson, widow of Gray Thompson, Reinerton; Carol Tallman and her husband George, Tower City and Ellen Barkos and her husband Mike, Williamstown. Five grandchildren, Darryl Thompson, Michelle Flynn, Carla Wynn, Terri Cathers and Nicole Corallo; six great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 2nd, from St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Charles Oldland. Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m., at the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family from the Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown. In lieu of flowers donations should be made to her church, 1931 Wiconisco Street, Reinerton, PA 17980. George Harrison Schwalm, 90, of The Manor at Susquehanna Village, Millersburg, formerly of Valley View, passed away Tuesday at The Manor.
He was born on Nov. 14, 1919, in Valley View, a son of the late Gurney Schwalm and the late Mary Shadle Schwalm.
He was a graduate of the former Hegins Township High School.
He retired as a clerk for Midway Supermarket, Valley View. He and his wife had owned and operated a grocery store in Valley View. George enjoyed providing mobile grocery service to many area residents. He had also worked for the former Bud Kimmel General Store, Valley View.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View.
He was also a member of the Tri-Valley Senior Citizens, a member and former director of the Johannes Schwalm Historical Association Inc., and a life member of the Valley View Fire Company.
George enjoyed research ing the Schwalm genealogy. He had traveled to the Schwalm homeland in Germany while doing his research.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Evelyn Schwalm, on Dec. 13, 2007. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Wilson, Frank and Mark Schwalm; and two sisters, Mary Jane Runkle and Emma Stokes.
He is survived by a sister, Catherine Warfield, Schoolyard Square, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View, at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Carl Shankweiler and the Rev. Curtis Zemencik officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Valley View. Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Frank H. Schwalm, 83, formerly of Valley View, died Thursday at ManorCare Health Services, Pottsville.
Born in Valley View, Jan. 28, 1924, he was a son of the late Gurney and Mary S. Schadle Schwalm.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was retired from Bethlehem Steel.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View, Valley View Fire Company and Valley View Gun Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Ney Hentz Schwalm, on Feb. 10, 1992; two brothers, Wilson and Mark Schwalm; two sisters, Mary Runkle and Emma Stokes.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey Schwalm; two stepsons, William Hentz and his wife, Connie and David Hentz; a sister, Catherine Warfield; a brother, George Schwalm; four grandchildren, Brent and Julie Hentz, Mark Schwalm and Scott Runkel; four great-grandsons Bristyn, Garrett, Shawn, and Cory.

Mary Jane Runkle
Mary Jane Runkle, 70, of School Street, Spring Glen, died Wednesday at her home. She had been in in health since August 1996.
Born in Valley View, Aug. 11, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Gurney and Mary Schadel Schwalm. She was a 1944 graduate of Hubley Township High School.
She had worked for a short time at a Gratz factory.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ Church, Sacramento, where she sang on the choir for more than 50 years and was a member of its Women's Guild.
A daughter, Sharon Sue Runkle, died in 1964, and a brother Wilson Schwalm, died Feb. 14, 1993.
Surviving are her husband, James L., whom she married on Feb. 9, 1945; two sons, Gary L., Fairport, N.Y., and Robert D., Spring Glen; three daughters, Gail P. Dallen, Woolrich, Cindy A. Gross, Ellicott City, Md., and Linda C. Brosius, RR1 Dornsife; two sisters, Catherine Warfield, Tower City, and Emma Stokes, Valley View; three brothers, Mark Schwalm, Lykens, and George and Frank Schwalm, both of Valley View; 10 grand- children; 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul's UCC, Sacramento. The Rev. Ruth Mary Summy will officiate.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Wilson Schwalm, of Sacramento, Schuylkill County, died on Sunday night in Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville, following a long illness.
Born in Hegins R.D., she was the former Arlene Morgan, daughter of the late Joseph and Charlotte (Houser) Morgan, and was a member of the Reformed United Church of Christ, Sacramento, where she taught Sunday school for several years.
She was graduated from Hazleton High School in 1933.
At one time she was employed as secretary and office manager of the former Hegins Mfg. Co.
Surviving are her husband, Wilson, a daughter, Mrs. James (Diane) Ressler, and a son, Walter, three brothers, Ario, Hegins, Irvin, Ashland, R.D., and Walter, Hegins R.D; a sister, Mrs. Altheda Hacker, of this city; and four grandchildren

She was a member of St. Paul's UCC Church, Sacramento, and a former Sunday School teacher.
