    Eugene S. Ressler, age 93, of Valley View, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021 at his residence.
    He was born on Monday, June 20, 1927, in Hegins, a son of the late Ralph R Ressler and the late Dorthea (Yoder) Ressler.
    He was a 1947 graduate of the former Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades, Philadelphia.
    Gene served in the US Navy Seabees during World War II.
    He was a construction supervisors for Fred Alexander Construction, Atlas, and then retired form Keener Construction.
    He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View.
    Gene loved fly fishing, wood carving, furniture making, and spending time with his family
    He is survived by his wife Phyllis C (Kessler) Ressler, to whom he was married for 73 years.
    He is also survived by a son, James R Ressler and his wife Diane of Valley View; two daughters, Bonnie A Bowman and her husband Steven of Valley View and Robin A Wiest and her husband Dr. David of Doylestown; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
    Following Gene's wishes, there will be no services.
    Memorial contributions can be made to Hegins Area Ambulance Association, 352 Gap Street, Valley View, PA 17983.

    George W. Tallman, 81, nationally known farmer
    George W. Tallman, 81, of RD1 Tower City, a well-known Schuylkill County potato farmer, died Thursday at home.
    Born in Muir, May 21, 1918, he was a son of the late William W. and Lottie B. Schwalm Tallman.
    He was known throughout the United States as a potato farmer and a leader in the farm community. He was a self-made man who purchased his original 88-acre farm from his father, growing the farm into a 1,300-acre thriving potato business known as "Tallman Potatoes."
    He served as president of the Pennsylvania Cooperative Potato Growers and was designated as a Pennsylvania Master Farmer in 1953. He was also involved in the early establishment of the National Potato Council. In 1975, he became a director of the Federal Land Bank, serving for 14 years helping other farmers get their start in agriculture.
    He and his brother, Robert, established a successful farm machinery dealership marketing Oliver tractors and equipment throughout Pennsylvania.
    In addition to farming, he had an intense interest in the anthracite coal business, and he and his sons operated coal mines on the Stoney Mountain and in the Bear Valley.
    He contributed to his family's genealogical research assisting in the publication of the book, "Johannes Schwalm, the Hessian." He served on the board of the Johannes Schwalm His-torial Associa- - . tion until his death.
    He was a member of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reinerton, teaching Sunday school from age 17 until his death and serving on church council for many terms. He was past president of the Pennsylvania Cooperative Potato Growers.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Christine E. Swoyer, in 1983.
    Surviving are five sons, George, Tower City, William, Bethel, John, Harrisburg, Joseph, Tower City, and Richard, Lykens; three daughters, Virginia Morton, Thousand Oaks, Calif., Helen Masser, Sacramento, and Nancy Schlegel, Valley View; a brother, Robert H., Harbeson, Del; 10 grandchildren.
    A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. John P. Feeney Funeral Home Inc., Reading, is in charge of arrangements.

    Born March 23, 1937, in Trevorton, he was a son of the late Lester and Gertie Crissinger Runkle.
    He was a 1955 graduate of the former Hegins Township High School and had attended Penn State University.
    He was a self-employed auto mechanic and owner of the former Runkle's Texaco, Hegins. He had retired as a die repairman at AMP, Tower City.
    He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins.
    He was also a former member of the Hegins Valley View Rotary.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia M. Hentz Runkle, in 2003.
    Surviving are a son, Scott L. Runkle and his wife, Karla, Hegins; two grandsons, Shawn M. Runkle and Cory S. Runkle, both of Hegins; and two brothers, Raymond Runkle, Silver Bay, Minn., and Clarence Runkle, Sellersville.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins, with the Rev. Claude Schach officiating.
