    HERNDON MATRON CALLED BY DEATH
    Mrs. Hattie Bordner, 73, Herndon, died late yesterday in her home after a brief illness. Mrs. Bordner, widow of David Bordner, who died 16 years ago, was one of Herndon's best known residents.
    The deceased was a member of the Stone Valley Lutheran and Reformed Church, of which her forbears were among the founders. Surviving are nine children, a sister, three brothers and a number of grandchildren.
    The funeral will be held Thurs day afternoon with brief rites at 2:00 in the home, followed by major services in the Stone Valley Church. Revs. Walter Wagner, of the Lutheran congregation, and Elmer Dech, of the Reformed congregation, will officiate. Burial will be in the churchyard.

    Brackney, PA - Dennis C. Byerly, 88, of Brackney, PA passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 23, 2024. He was born on April 1, 1936 in Herndon, PA to the late Lawrence W. and Helen A. (Shaffer) Byerly. His wife of 60 years, MaryLou (Matlock) Byerly, predeceased him in 2020.
    Dennis is survived by his 3 daughters, Debra Dailey of Carlisle, PA, Dawn (James) McCrea of York, PA, and Dianne (Leo) Hearst, III of Statesville, NC; son, David (Lorrie) Byerly of Brackney, PA; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Elaine Cole; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
    He was a member of and served in a variety of capacities at the Vestal Center UMC. He was an officer of the Greater Binghamton Penn State Alumni Association and an avid fan of PENN STATE football. He was a member of the Genealogy Club and a genealogist for both sides of his family. He also helped with the Vestal Center MYF and remained very active in his church and community all his life. He was a member of the United Methodist Men’s Club, and helped with the chicken BBQ. He was a member and treasurer for the Silver Lake Rod and Gun Club for many years. He loved hunting and trout ?shing, walking in the woods, camping, canoeing, was an avid outdoorsman and a devoted family man.
    A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home, Montrose with Pastor Debra Dailey and family officiating. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Mill Hall, PA at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Vestal Center UMC, 478 W. Hill Rd., Vestal, NY 13850 or to Revolutionary Hospice, 829 Scranton Carbondale Highway, Eynon, PA 18403.
