Mary Paul is also referred to as May Paul in some sources.5,1 She was born on 6 November 1867, Klingerstown, Schuylkill County, PA.5 She was the daughter of Emanuel Paul and Elmyra Elizabeth Erdman.3,4 Albert Peter Schwalm and Mary Paul had a relationship, but no marriage records were found for them. William Reilly Schwalm's obituary lists his parernts as "Albert and Mary Erdman Schwalm," suggesting Albert and Mary were married, but there is little evidence for an actual marriage. Published baptismal records for William list his parents as "Albert Schwalm & May Paul" where spouses are usually listed only with the husband's surname, suggesting that Albert and Mary were not then married.6 In 1900, Mary Paul was living in the household of George E. Erdman, where she was listed as "single" and working as a housekeeper. The household included "Charlie Erdman," listed as an adopted son of George.7 She married George E. Erdman circa May 1902.8,9 Mary Paul died on 2 April 1942, Upper Mahantongo Township, Schuylkill County, PA, at age 74.10
Newspaper obituary:
Mrs. Mary Erdman Dies At Klingerstown, R. D.

Mrs. Erdman, who was born November 6, 1867, was the widow of Israel Erdman, who died 20 years ago. She was a lifelong resident of that area and resided for the past 15 years at the home of Mr. Todd. She was for many years a member of the Salem Church at Rough and Ready.
Surviving are her children, William Schwalm, Spring Glen; David Engle, Klingerstown, and Harry and John Erdman, Pitman.
Arrangements for the funeral services will be made this evening.

She was buried on 5 April 1942, at Salem Lutheran and Refomed Church Cemetery, Rough and Ready, Schuylkill County, PA.5 As suggested by her newspaper obituary, Mary had 5 sons with 4 different men: Albert Schwalm, Israel Erdman, Ellsworth Erdman, and George Engle. Ellsworth Erdman and Israel Erdman were brothers. It is not clear whether she was married to any of these men, other than Israel Erdman.12,13,14
