    He was born in Valley View, Feb, 6, 1908, a son of the late Monroe and Sarah Bowers Bixler.
    He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, Valley View Fire Company, Valley View Gun Club, and Tri-Valley Senior Citizens. He was a retired employee of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
    His wife, the former Anna Wiest, died in 1977.
    Surviving are a son, Ronald, Palmyra; a daughter, Darlene, wife of Dennis Shearer, Matamoras.four grandchild, dren; a brother, Melvin, Hegins area; three sisters, Irene Schwalm, Valley View, Rena Krise, Lavelle, and Grace Miller, Hegins.

    Services for Irene K. Wiest, 78, of Klingerstown, who died Friday night at Harrisburg Hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Erdman, Lykens area. The Rev. Walter L. Hafer Jr., Klingerstown, will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, is in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Wiest was admitted to the hospital Jan. 1.
    She was born in Klingerstown area, May 30, 1911, a daughter of the late John and Verdie Schlegel Reed.
    She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Erdman, its Rainbow Class, and was active in Pennsylvania Dutch plays. She was a member of Mahantongo Valley and Tri-Valley Senior Citizens.
    She was married to Clarence E. Wiest on Dec. 24, 1934, at Lykens.
    She was preceded in death by two brothers.

    KLINGERSTOWN -- Clarence E. "Clippy"- Wiest, 85, Klingerstown RD1, died at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1992, at Sunbury Community Hospital, where he had been a patient since Dec. 16.
    Born Jan. 26, "1907, in Klingerstown RD1, he was a son of the late Nathaniel and Emma (Schwalm) Wiest. He was married to the former Irene K. Reed who died in 1990.
    He was educated in Klingerstown area schools.
    He was a retired farmer and carpenter and previously worked for Nevin Wiest Contractor, Trevorton, retiring in 1971.
    He was a director of Northwestern Mutual Fire Insurance Co., Ashland RD1,for 48 years.
    He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Erdman, Lykens RD1; Tri-Valley Senior Citizens, Valley View; Maha'ntongo Valley Senior Citizens, Pitman; and Klingerstown Fire Company.
    He is survived by a daughter, Larona Smink of Klingerstown RD1, with whom he lived; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Paul of Klingerstown RD1 and Mabel Snyder of Elizabethville; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
    The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Erdman, Lykens RD1, by the Rev. Walter Hafer Jr. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Erdman, Lykens RD1.
    Visitors may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown RD1, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

    She retired after 35 years as a secretary with the PA Dept. of Environmental Protection, Harrisburg.
    At her church she taught Sunday School, helped with fellowship meals, and sang in the Choir for over 60 years. She enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, and gardening.
    She is survived by her brothers Ralph L. Snyder and his wife Shirley of Elizabethville, and Leonard D. Snyder and his wife Nancy of Downingtown, nieces Jill Motter, Lori Kieffer, Tracy Suder, Marjorie Felton, Jennifer Stinson,and nephew Nathan Snyder; great nieces and nephews Coryn, Colby, Brent, Amber, Alex, and Adam; great great nieces and nephews Rebecca, Brandon, Elliot, and Paisley.
    The family will receive friends on Tues., December 23rd from 10-11:00 AM at Salem U.C.C. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 AM at the church, with burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

    Born in Klingerstown, Feb. 25, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Emma Schwalm Wiest.
    She attended Hegins Township schools and was a homemaker.
    She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, RD1 Klingerstown, where she served as chairperson of the Salem Kitchen Committee for eight years.
    She was preceded in death by four sisters, Minnie Starr, Katie Deibert, Mazie Miller and Anna Bixler; two brothers, Nevin and Clarence.
    Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Russell D; a son, Roy D., RD1 Klingerstown; a daughter, Eleanor Lenker, RD1 Hemdon; a sister, Mabel Snyder, Elizabethville; four grandchildren.
    Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at her church. The Rev. Mark Rothermel will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RD1 Klingerstown, has charge of of arrangements.

    The funeral of Mrs. Gabriella Wiest Smeltz, 73, wife of Gurney W. Smeltz, Sacramento, will be held Tuesday morning from St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento, with her pastor, the Rev. George Henry officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Sancramento. Mrs. Smeltz died Friday evening at her home after a lingering illness.
    She was born in Upper Mahantongo Township, July 26, 1899, daughter of the late Charles and Mary Clark Wiest. She was a member of St. Paul's Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, Valley View.
    Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Mary, wife of William Bowman, who operates a beauty parlor in Valley View; Anna, wife of Malcolm Smith, RD2 Hegins; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jemimah Rabuck, RD Klingerstown; Mrs. Gertie Kissinger, Star Route. Spring Glen; one brother, Guy Wiest, Sacramento.

    Gurney W. Smeltz, 99, of 930 W. Main St, Valley View, formerly of Sacramento, died Saturday at home.
    Born in Rough and Ready, Nov. 16, 1894, he was a son of the late Samuel and Emma Fetterolf Smeltz.
    He was an Army veteran of World War I and was the last surviving World War I veteran in western Schuylkill County.
    He was retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
    Mr. Smeltz was a member of St Paul's United Church of Christ Church, Sacramento, where he served on the consistory for many years and as church and Sunday school treasurer for 20 years, and Valley View American Legion Post 575.
    His wife, the former Gabriella Wiest died in 1972. Surviving are two daughters, Anna Smith, RD Hegins, and Mary Bowman, with whom he resided; a brother, Alleri, Sacramento; three sisters, Hannah Herb and Mabel Trout both of Hegins, and Iva Michael, Spring Glen; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from St Paul's UCC, Sacramento. There will be no viewing today. Interment will be in the church cemetery, Sacramento. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.
