John S. Reed, 88, of Klingerstown R. D., died yesterday afternoon at 4:00 in the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Weist, with whom he was residing. Death terminated an illness of several years.
Mr. Reed was married to the former Vertie Geist, who preceded him in death in 1959. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and the Gratz Fire Company.
Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. Harry (Flossie) Reiner, Dornsife R. D; Mrs. Clarence (Irene) Weist, Klingerstown R. D. 2; Mrs. Charles (Helen) Ramer and Mrs. Leon (Lila) Geist, Pitman; Mrs. Lear (Violet) Troutman, Penn Brook; Mrs. Margaret Enders, Millersburg and Mrs. Robert (Ethel) Kohler, Spring Glen; one son, Clair Reed. Carlisle R. D; one brother, James A. Reed, Klingerstown; 25 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Mrs. Verdie J. Reed, 77, wife of John Reed, Gratz, and mother of Mrs. Harry Reiner, Dornsife R.D., died early this morning in her home after being in failing health for one year.
Born March 10, 1881, in Klingerstown R.D., Mrs. Reed was a daughter of the late Wilson and Mary (Schlegel) Geist. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church and Sunday School, Klingerstown R.D. 1. Her death severed a marital union of 58 years.
Surviving are the husband, seven daughters, Mrs. Harry Reiner, Dornsife R.D; Mrs. Clarence Wiest and Mrs. Leon Geist Klingerstown R. D. 1; Mrs Charles Ramer, Pitman; Mrs Lear Troutman, Millersburg; Mrs. Clarence Enders, Elizabethville, and Mrs. Robert Kahler, Sacramento; two sons, Leroy Reed, Lykens, and Clair Reed, Harrisburg; 25 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one step brother, Harvey Geist. Herndon, and a step-sister, Mrs. Hattie Minnier, Herndon.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 in Sa lem Lutheran and United Church of Christ, Klingerstown R.D. 1. Rev. Richard Jones, Spring Glen, and Rev. J. C. Glessner, Leck Kill, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Lawrence Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown R.D. 1, on Sunday evening and at the church from Monday noon until time of the service.

Anthony A. "Snook" Herb, 77, of Valley View, passed away Tuesday at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.
Born Friday April 21, 1939, in Valley View, he was a son of the late Albert W and Lillian M. Conrad Herb.
He was a 1957 graduate of Tri-Valley High School.
He was a machinist inspector for TRW, Harrisburg, prior to his retirement.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View.
Snook was a longtime member of the Hegins Area Ambulance Association and the Valley View Fire Company.
He was a member of the former Vagabonds, Chapper-als, and the Imperials musical groups.
His wife, Gladys M. Snyder Herb, passed away in 2012.
He is survived by a daughter, Sheila M. Klinger and her husband, Brian, Klingerstown; two granddaughters, Trishia N. Klinger, Klingerstown, and Alyssa M. Deibert and her husband, Adam, Sacramento; great-grandson, Bentley Deibert, Sacramento; sister, Cynthia Shankweiler, Valley View; his companion, Jean L. Morris, Hegins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View, with the Rev. Brian Beissel and the Rev. Carl Shankweiler officiating. A viewing will be held from to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be made in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Valley View. Gladys May Herb, 74, of 1102 W. Walnut St., Valley View, passed away Friday with her family by her side at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center, Tremont.
Born in Upper Paxton Township, May 30, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Russell H. and Miriam M. Billow Snyder.
She was a seamstress in area garment factories prior to her retirement.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View. She was also a member of the Woodman of the World, Pitman, and a former member of the Valley View Fire Company Auxiliary
Surviving are her husband, Anthony A. "Snook" Herb, to whom she was married 51 years; a daughter, Sheila M. Klinger and husband, Brian, Klingerstown; two granddaughters, Trishia N. Klinger and Alyssa M. Klinger, both of Klingerstown; five brothers, Donald Snyder and Robert Snyder, both of Millersburg, Larry Snyder, Kissimmee, Fla., Albert Snyder, Millersburg, and Russell Snyder, Halifax; two sisters, Faye Deibler, Halifax, and Wanda Brooks, Millersburg; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley View, with the Rev. Brian Beissel and the Rev. Carl Shankweiler officiating. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
