  • At the time of the 1910 Census, Manasses and his wife Katie were living in Upper Mahantongo Township, Schuylkill County, PA, where he was working as a house carpenter. They had been married 18 years and had given birth to 4 children, 3 of whom were then living with them, Edmond, also a carpenter, Florence, and Blanche.2
  • In 1920, Manasses and his wife Kate were living in Upper Mahantongo Township, Schuylkill County, PA, where he was working as a carpenter at a coal breaker. Their household included 2 daughters, Florence and Blanche.3

    M. S. Rothermel, age 76 years, died at his home near Klingerstown Sunday evening. He was a member of the Klingerstown Reformed Church.
    Mr. Rothermel was a son of William and Sarah (Shaffer) Rothermel, and was a native of Jordan Township, Northumberland County.
    Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Katie Kissinger Rothermel, two sons and two daughters, Austin Rothermel, Hershey; Edmond Rothermel, Lykens; Mrs. Harry Fetter, Middletown, and Mrs. Ira Hoffman. Klingerstown R. D; thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
    Other survivors are a brother, Monroe Rothermel, of Shamokin; and two sisters, Mrs. Harvey Smith of Berrysburg and Mrs. Jennie Klinger, of Lykens Township.
    Funeral services will be held from the Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, at 10 o'clock this Thursday morning, with further services in the Klingerstown Reformed Church. Rev. W. E. Boyer will officiate and interment will be in the cemetery adjoining the church.

    Monroe W. Rothermel, 80, of 1408 Nelson Street, died yesterday morning at 11:30 in his home of a complication which terminated an illness of six years duration. He had been hospitalized several times in recent years.
    Mr. Rothermel was born in Klingerstown R.D., January 25, 1881, a son of the late William and Sarah (Schaeffer) Rothermel. He was a retired farmer and laborer. Mr. Rothermel was first married to Rachel Engle who died in 1936. He was married in 1944 to Bessie Gottshall.
    Survivors include the widow, five sons, John, Gowen City; Wilson and George, Hershey; Charles, Steelton, and Norman, Pitman: four daughters, Mrs. Emma Mattern, Shamokin: Mrs. Leah Masser, Pitman; Martha, Selinsgrove, and Mrs. Oscar Bloch. Baltimore. Md; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Fred Herb, Rochester, N. Y., and Mrs. Edward Glosek and Mrs. Paul Mayton, Shamokin, and one step-son, Richard Gottshall, Shamokin; 24 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Jennie Klinger, Gratz.
    Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 in the Lawrence E. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown R. D. The Rev. Theodore Gould, pastor of Seventh Street Primitive Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Howerter's Cemetery, Pitman. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday evening and Monday until the time of services.

    Mrs. Minnie Edna Smith, 59, of Berrysburg, dies suddenly Monday afternoon while visiting at the home of a neighbor. She was enroute home from an errand when she stopped at the residence of John Nieman, where she was stricken with a heart attack.
    Mrs. Smith, the mother of ten children, was a member of Himmel's Lutheran and Reformed Church at Rebuck.
    In addition to her husband, Harvey Smith, she is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Marlin Huntzinger, Spring Glen; Mrs. Harry Hoffner, Sacramento; Mrs. Norman Kemble, Hegins; Mrs. Harlan Boyer, Halifax; Mrs. Charles Rebuck, Trevorton, and Mrs. Lester Erdman, and four sons, Homer, Dornsife, R. D; Howard, Dornsife; Holden, Sacramento, and Harry, Trevorton. A brother, Monroe Rothermel, Shamokin, a sister, Jennie Klinger, Gratz, 34 grand children and one great-grandchild also survive.
    Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. from Himmel's Church with Rev. Paul W. Billow, Urban, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Hoover Funeral Home at Berrysburg Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 o clock.

    A native of Northumberland County, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Richard and Lydia Paul Smith. Mr. Smith was a self employed blacksmith in lower Northumberland and Upper Dauphin Counties for many years until his retirement in 1952. His wife the former Minnie Rotheramel, died in 1952. Mr. Smith was wife, a member of Himmel's Lutheran Church, Rebuck.
    Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Harry Heffner, Sacramento;: Mrs. Huntzinger, with whom he made his home; Mrs. Norman Kemble, Hegins; Mrs. Helen Boyer, of Halifax; Mrs. Charles Rebuck, Treverton; Mrs. Lester Erdman, Westminister; four sons: Homer, Dornsife R. D; Howard and Holden, both of Dornsife; Harvey, Plumstedville; one sister, Mrs. Richard Micheal, Herndon; a brother, Gurney Smith, Palmyra; an uncle, Samuel Paul, Valley View; 34 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
