    PAXINOS -- Mardell S. Walz, 67, of RR1 Paxinos died at 12:55 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2001, at Manor Care Health Services, Sunbury. She had been ill for the past year.
    She was born May 11, 1934, in Trevorton, a daughter of the late Nevin and Loretta (Koch) Wiest. On June 6, 1953, she married Jacob A. Walz Jr., who preceded her in death June 25, 1961. She lived at RR1 Paxinos all her life.
    She was a 1952 graduate of Trevorton High School.
    Mrs. Walz was a retired seamstress in the garment industry. She worked in local factories and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
    She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Trevorton.
    She enjoyed her family and friends.
    Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Charles Ritzman of RR1 Paxinos and Peggy and Timothy Lagerman of RR1 Paxinos; five grandchildren, Bradley Ritzman, Timothy Lagerman II, Daniel Lagerman, David Lagerman and Sarah Lagerman; three sisters, Darlene Hanken of Staten Island, N.Y., Gloria Jean Persing of Trevorton and Carolyn Siperko of Shamokin; four brothers, Carlos Wiest of Anaheim, Calif., Mason Wiest of Trevorton, Brient Wiest of Trevorton and Nevin Wiest Jr. of Deerfield, Fla; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ennetta Wiest and Bernita McCarthy, and one brother, Linwood Wiest.
    Visitors may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 601 Market St., Trevorton, by the Rev. Sarah J. Stumme.
    Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
    The family will provide flowers. Contributions may be made in her memory to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 601 Market St., Trevorton, PA 17881.

    Jacob Arthur Walz Jr., 28, Augustaville, Paxinos RD 1, passed away in Sunbury Community Hospital at 7:15 a.m. Sunday. He had been admitted to the hospital the previous Tuesday. Death was due to complications.
    He was born in Brodheadsville, Pa., on July 14, 1932, the son of Jacob A. and Beatricen DeHaven Walz. He had Augustaville for the past 27. years. He was married to the former Mardell Wiest, Trevorton, on June 6, 1953.
    He was formerly employed as a truck driver for the Furman Canning Company, Northumberland RD, and was a member of the Holiness Church of Augustaville.
    Surviving are his wife, his parents at Augustaville, two daughters at home, Jean Marie and Peggy Sue; one brother, Raymond Walz, serving with the U.S. Air Force at Charleston, S.C; one sister, Miss Shirley Wal, Augustaville, his paternal grandmother. Mrs. V. Walz, Augustaville: Mrs. Virgie Walz, Augustaville; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Layton DeHaven of Brodheadsville and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Wirt funeral home, Cliftmont, with Rev. Earl Heckman, his pastor of Augustaville, officiating. Burial will be made in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. Friends will be received at the funeral home in Cliftmont on Tuesday evening.

    He was born in Hebe, July 13, 1894, a son of the late James and Lizzie Peifer Schlegel.
    He was a member of David's United Church of Christ, Hebe, and Valley View Fire Company.
    Mr. Schlegel was a retired contractor and carpenter.
    His wife, the former Ruth Troutman, died in 1985.
    Surviving are two sons, Max, Valley View, and Palmer, Aberdeen, Md; two daughters, Geraldine Brubaker, Valley View, and Josephne Lenker, Harrisburg; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jacob, and Samuel, both of Valley View, Roy, Sacramento, and Carl, Tower City; two sisters, Grace Kramer, Tremont, and Ruth Seiger, Donaldson.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in David's United Church of Christ. The Rev. George Heberling will officiate. Interment will be in David's Cemetery, Hebe. There will be no calling hours Tuesday evening. Buffington Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.
