    DALMATIA -- Daniel Albert Martz, 85, of Dalmatia died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at his home.
    He was born Sept. 18, 1912, in Lower Mahanoy Township, a son of the late John and Laura (Wiest) Martz. He married the former Margaret A. (Klinger) Schwalm.
    Mr. Martz retired as a construction worker from the Kocher Quarry, York.
    He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Malta.
    A life member of the Dalmatia and Herndon fire companies, he was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 181, Sunbury.
    In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons, William of Rauschtown and Fredrick of Bellefonte; one stepson, Leroy Schwalm of Klingerstown; one daughter Evelyn Brockman of Fairbanks, Alaska; two stepdaughters, Elsie Lentz of Herndon and Norma Schwalm of Dalmatia; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; five step-great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Nelson "Jake" of Beech Cteek; and three sisters, Mildred Strait of Millersburg, Martina Bechtel of Williamsport and Mary Koppenhaver of RR1 Dalmatia.
    He was preceded in death by one stepson, Lawrence Schwalm, in 1992.
    The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, by the Rev. Michael Smith. Burial will be in St. Luke's Cemetery, Malta. Visitors may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Dalmatia Fire Company, Dalmatia. Pa. 17017.

    DALMATIA -- The funeral for John N. Martz, 83, Dalmatia RD, will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St Luke's United Church of Christ, Malta, Dalmatia RD, by the Rev. Barry R. Smock.
    Burial will be in the church cemetery.
    Friends may call at the Edwin Hoover Funeral Home Tuesdav from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church Wednesday from noon until the time of the service.
    Mr. Martz died Saturday morning in Sunbury Community Hospital where he was admitted Tuesday.
    He was a native and lifelong resident of Lower Mahanoy Township and a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ at Malta.
    A son of the late Jacob A. and Emma Schaeffer Martz, he was married to the former Laura Wiest. His death breaks a marital union of 63 years. He was born June 17, 1892.
    Surviving are the widow and these children: Daniel A . Martz, Dalmatia; Mrs. Levi Strait, Millersburg RD; Mrs. Paul Koppenhaver, Dalmatia RD; Nelson J. Martz. Beach Creek RD; Mrs. Bruce Bechtel, Williamsport; and Mrs. Florence Bordner, Herndon RD.
    Also surviving are 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters, William A. Martz, J. Lloyd Martz, and Charles E. Martz, all of Dalmatia RD; and Mrs. Neda I. Bricker, Frackville; and Mrs. Walter Smith, Harrisburg. Two daughters died before him.

    MILLERSBURG -Mary Irene Koppenhaver, 102, originally of Dalmatia, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on May 3, 2023 at the Northern Dauphin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Millersburg. Her family surrounded her during her last week and she was well-loved by all whose paths crossed hers.
    Mary was born on April 13, 2021 to John N. and Laura C. (Wiest) Martz, the fourth of eight children. She was born in Hickory Corners and was raised on the family farm in Dalmatia. She was baptized at St. Lukes United Church of Christ in Malta. Mary attended school in the one room school house in Dalmatia that was eventually converted to a house and later became her home after she married her lifelong sweetheart, Paul A. Koppenhaver on November 9, 1940. Mary and Paul were blessed welcome five children; Larry P. Koppenhaver (Barbara Romberger) of Halifax, Harold E. Koppenhaver (Hazel Kitchen) of Dalmatia, Dean N. Koppenhaver (Judy Rickert) of Pillow, Marilee Rood (Harry E. Rood) of Fairfield and Carolee A Chirillo (William O. Chirillo ) of Dover, DE. They again were blessed with twelve grandchildren, Vicki L. Romberger (Dave), Diane E. Koppenhaver, Daniel H. Koppenhaver (Stacey), Duane P Koppenhaver (Heidi), Kelly S. Kuntz (Scott), Mary A. Davis (Rodney) , Paula S. McPhail (Patrick), Debra L. Flint (Steve), Mickey C. Koppenhaver (Christine), Casey D. Koppenhaver, Linda M. Tholstrup (Michael) and Denise M. Keeler (Bradley). Mary enjoyed hearing all about her seventeen great-grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. She loved all of their visits.
    Mary spent her life as a homemaker and raised not only her own children, but cared for many nieces and nephews and grandchildren as well. She was an excellent cook, an even better baker, a great seamstress and she loved to crochet. Mary was an extraordinarily strong woman enduring many hardships and trials in her life. She was known by many as a source of help and good counsel and an excellent role model. She was a woman of great faith and dedication to her family. Known as the World's Best Mom and Best Grandma Ever, she will be remembered and loved forever and her memory will be honored and cherished.
    Mary was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, three grandchildren: Diane, Casey and Vicki, and one great-grandson, Jesse Romberger.
    Services will be held at her church on Saturday, May 6, 2023, officiated by Pastor Tom Moulfair of St. Lukes UCC and her grandson-in-law Pastor Rodney Davis of Transformation Church of Delaware. The family will receive visitors at 10 AM and the funeral will follow at 11 AM. Interment will be at St. Lukes Cemetery in Malta. Everyone is welcome to a luncheon at St. Lukes UCC after the committal.
