Mrs. Dubendorf, Wife Of Sunbury Missionary, Dies
Mrs. Gertrude Rebuck Dubendorf, wife of Rev. Daniel W. Dubendorf, 926 Reagan street, died at 10 o'clock Sunday night at Community Hospital.
She was admitted June 2 after having been in ill health for five weeks. She underwent an operation from which she rallied. Complications set in and caused her death. She was 56 years of age.
Daughter of Joel and Amanda Lahr Rebuck, prominent residents of lower Northumberland county, she was born September 20, 1890, at Rebuck. She was educated in the schools of the community.
Coming to Sunbury 35 years ago, she made her home here ever since, and endeared herself to all who knew her by her warm and kindly disposition.
Two of her three sons returned from war service early this year, Lee, after serving with the United States Army Air Forces in the European theatre, Mark, after serving with the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific theatre. Mark's departure for the war front was only two weeks before his wife became a mother. The third son of the family, Samuel, now 10 years old, recently completed the fourth grade of the public schools.
Rev. Dubendorf has long engaged in undemominational missionary work throughout Central Pennsylvania., Without the aid of any established religious denominations, he has by his own personal efforts, zeal and strong convictions, materially advanced the Christian faith.
Mrs. Dubendorf is survived by her husband and the following children: Miss Amanda Dubendorf, at home; Mrs. Ellis Hummel, Mrs. Barney Strohecker, of Halifax, Lee, at home, Mark, of Rochester, and Samuel, at home; two grandchildren, David Strohecker and Bonnie Lee Dubendorf; and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Emma Snyder, Mrs. Anthohy Heath, Trevorton, Daniel Rebuck, of Pittsburgh, William and Charles Rebuck, of Dornsife R. D. Wednesday
Funeral services afternoon will at be 3:30 held clock, daylight time, from the home with services continued in the Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church, Rev. J. B. Lane, the pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Pomfret Manor cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday evening at the Reagan street home.

NORTHUMBERLAND -- Amanda D. Kniss, 86, formerly of 1045 Masser St., Sunbury, died Saturday moming, Feb. 1,1997, at Nottingham Village Nursing Center, where she lived for a short time.
She was born March 5, 1910, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Daniel W. and Gertrude (Rebuck) Dubendorf. She was married to Lloyd Kniss, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kniss was employed by Susquehanna Silk Mill, Sunbury.
She attended Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher.
She was a former member of the Central Pennsylvania Gospel Band.
Surviving are one sister, Ruth D. Strohecker of Sunbury and two brothers, Lee D. Dubendorf of Northumberland and Samuel S. Dubendorf of Lebanon.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Hummel and one brother, Mark Dubendorf.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, by the Rev. Charles E. Cole.. Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.
Visitors may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

SUNBURY - Ruth E. Strohecker, 89, of RR2 Sunbury, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 22, 2006, at her residence.
She was born July 12, 1916, in Sunbury. On Aug. 24, 1940, she married Barney A. Strohecker, who survives.
Mrs. Strohecker was formerly employed by Sunbury Textile Mills, Nite-Kraft Co., and Champ Hat Co., all of Sunbury.
She was a member of Sunbury Bible Church, RR1 Northumberland.
Ruth enjoyed playing the piano and clarinet and was a member of the Central Pennsylvania Gospel Band.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons and daughters-in-law, David E. and Janet Strohecker of RR2 Sunbury, and James A. and Tracey Strohecker of Lancaster; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Daniel and Rebekah Strohecker, Beth and Wally Kerstetter, Heidi and Jeremy Kremer, J. Ryan and Debra Strohecker, Matthew T. Strohecker, Lenette and William Pehowic, Jenette Potts, and Christina Mutchler; 11; great-grandchildren; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Esther Dubendorf of Northumberland, and Samuel Ruth Dubendorf of Lebanon.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Mutchler; one son, Barrett; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Kerstetter; two sisters, Amanda Kniss and Pauline Hummel; and one brother, Mark.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, where the funeral will follow at 2 with the Rev. James Gross officiating.
Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.

Lee D. Dubendorf, 96, Northumberland
NORTHUMBERLAND Lee D. Dubendorf, 96, a former resident of King Street, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at Manor Care, Sunbury.
Lee was born Sept. 22, 1918, in Augustaville, a son of the late Daniel W. and Gertrude M. (Rebuck) Dubendorf. On Aug. 30, 1946, he married the former Esther E. Lee D. Guthrie who Dubendorf survives.
He attended Sunbury High School and later joined the Army Air Force in December 1941, serving during World War II. He was honorably discharged in October 1945 with the rank of staff sergeant and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal.
Lee was employed in 1945 as an installer with the Bell Telephone Company, Sunbury. He retired after 40 years of service in 1985 and received an award from the company for his years of service without sick leave. Following retirement, Lee worked part time at Furman Foods, Northumberland during tomato season and as part of the maintenance staff at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He attended Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, Sunbury, and was a life member of the American Legion Post 201, Sunbury and was a former member of the Central Pennsylvania Gospel Band.
Lee was known as a hard worker who always put his family and church first.
In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Gail L. and Charles Saxton, and one son and daughterin-law, Paul S. and Linda Dubendorf, all of Northumberland; four grandchildren, Jeffery Bahner, Matthew Saxton, Ashley Saxton and Lauren Fritchman; one great-grandson, Gabriel Bahner; and one brother and sister-in-law, Samuel and Ruth Dubendorf.
He was preceded in death by four siblings, Amanda, Pauline, Ruth and Mark.
Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, 967 Mile Hill Road, Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 1 with the Rev. Charles Cole officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
Arrangements are by the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland.

ELLIS A. HUMMEL
Ellis A. Hummel, 51, of Halifax RD2, died Friday at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. He was owner and operator of Ellis Hummel Mobile Home Sales and Hummel's Gas and Appliance Co., Inc. of New Cumberland.
He was past president and member of the Pennsylvania Mobile Home Association. He also was a member of the West Shore Chamber of Commerce, Loyal Order of Moose 238 of Marysville, and of Halifax, Powes Valley and Fairview Township fire companies.
He was a native of Tower City, a son of Mrs. Maggie and the late James Hummel.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Pauline J. Hummel; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly M. Davis and Mrs. Janice C. Wynn, both of Harrisburg; a son, Ellis Eugene Hummel Jr., at home; his mother, Mrs. Maggie Hummel, Halifax RD2; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Matter and Mrs. Vesta Kessler, both of Halifax; a brother, Charles W. Hummel, Progress, and five grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home at 4100 Jonestown Road. The Rev. John Leavengood, Lebanon, officiated.
Burial was made in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
