  • Barney A. Strohecker died on 30 January 2008, at home, 1096 Woodland Drive, Sunbury, Northumberland County, PA, at age 91.2
  • SUNBURY -- Barney A. Strohecker, 91, of 1096 Woodland Drive, went home to be with the Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, Jan. 30, 2008, at his home. He will be reunited with his wife, Ruth; his son, Barrett; and his daughter, Carol.
    He was born Feb. 18, 1916, in Rebuck, a son of the late Joel and Carrie Strohecker. He was married to the former Ruth E. Dubendorf, who preceded him in death on April 22, 2006.
    Barney served with the Coast Guard during World War II.
    He was employed as a foreman at the Norry Welding Co., Northumberland.
    He was a member of Sunbury Bible Church, Northumberland.
    Barney's hobbies were welding, carpentry and gardening, and he was an avid reader. He was a man of great wisdom, character and godliness. His legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David E. and Janet Strohecker of Sunbury and James A. and Tracey Strohecker of Lancaster; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Eva Wolfe of Lykens Valley.
    He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol; one son, Barrett; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa; and nine brothers and two sisters.
    David and Jim, his sons, invite friends to celebrate his life with them during a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunbury Bible Church, Northumberland, followed by the funeral at 2 with the Rev. James Gross officiating.
    Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barney's memory to Sunbury Bible Church, RR1, Northumberland, PA 17857.
    Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
