IDENTIFY BODY OF MAN FOUND DEAD IN HILLS
Ill Health And Worry Blamed For Suicide Of William Tschopp, Shamokin, And Dornsife Resident.
A man who had climbed to the most remote section of a mountain near Weigh Scales, along the Sunbury-Shamokin road to end his life, had been identified today as William Tschopp, 45, a WPA worker and erstwhile resident of Shamokin and Dornsife. He was a brother of Edward Tschopp of Sunbury.
The body had been found late Thursday afternoon by four Shamokin boys, hiking over the hilltop. It was suspended from the limb of a tree by a belt. Identification was made after state motor police had made inquiries at two Harrisburg addresses found written on a piece of paper in the clothing of the dead man, Before definite information had been received from Harrisburg, however, an officer went to the home of Mrs. Walter Paul, 1102 North Shamokin street, Shamokin when it was learned that a brother of the woman, who been residing at her home, had been missing since last Saturday.
Harry Kline, a next door neighbor of the Paul family went to the Farrow morgue and positively identified the body as that of Tschopp.
Conflicting statements were made by fellow WPA workers at to the time that the man disappeared. Some said he had not reported for duty during the present week, while others said he had The worked condition until Wednesday. The condition of the body, which was badly decomposed, indicated that it had been exposed to the elements for at least five or six days.
Tschopp's act was attributed to worry, the over fact ill that he health, had combined with the fact that he had recently been sued for divorce. He had been despondent since having been recently served with papers in a suit brought by his wife, relatives said. The couple had been estranged for some time past.
Born June 18, 1893, near Leck Kill, Tschopp was a son of the late Ferdinance and and Catherine Kahler Tschopp. He had resided in Shamokin and Dornsife at interals for some time past.
Surviving are his wife, two daughters, a son, and the following brothers and sisters: Edward, of Sunbury; John, Shamokin, Mrs. James Long, East Cameron township, Mrs. Francis Geise and Andrew of Leck Kill, Mrs. Walter Paul and Mrs. Ferdinand Smith, Shamokin, and Elias of Trevorton.
