- Newspaper obituary:
Charles R. "Skip" Miller, 80, of Middletown, Del., formerly of Pottsville, died unexpectedly Friday [March 23, 2018] at Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del.
Born in Pottsville, Aug. 7, 1937, Skip was a son of the late Leroy C. and Rose McGready Miller and brother of the late Judith Miller Herbert. Skip was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He graduated from Pottsville High School in 1955 and Valley Forge Military Academy in 1957. He also attended King's College, Wilkes-Barre.
He was the manager at Mady Car Wash for 13 years before moving to funeral sales, where he retired from Reynoldsville Casket Co. in 2006. He also served in the Army Reserves for six years and was assigned to the 365th Engineer Battalion.
Prior to moving to Delaware, he was a member of Schuylkill County Municipal Authority, Schuylkill County Football Scholar Athlete Association, AAA, Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus and St. Patrick Catholic Church.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Middletown, Del.
He found great joy in attending all the many activities of his grandchildren from football, cheerleading, pageants, basketball and motorcycle racing. He loved basketball and enjoyed attending University of Delaware men's and women's basketball games with his wife, Carole.
His sudden passing leaves a tremendous void as he loved his family and lived life to the fullest. He was a kindhearted man with a caring soul and infectious smile. The love he had for his wife was a true love and they were each other's soulmates. No matter where they went or what they did, they did it together.
Surviving are his wife of 55 loving years, Carole Mady Miller; three children, Jeff (Karen) Miller, Wilmington, Del., Mike (Stephanie) Miller, Mar Lin, and Cyndi (Rob) Close, Middletown, Del; eight grandchildren, Marissa Miller, Mikey Miller, Kayla Miller, Myles Miller, Kelsey Miller Adam (Jason), Dylan Miller, Brielle Close and Brynn Close; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Pottsville. Friends are invited to call from 9 to 11:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Pottsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Schuylkill Women in Crisis, P.O. Box 96, Pottsville, PA 17901. Hamilton-Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Orwigsburg, is honored to have been entrusted with arrangements.
