CHARLES M. HOFFMAN
Charles M. Hoffman, 83, a native of Fearnot, died this morning shortly after eight clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Herb, Tremont.
In ill health for the past several years, he came to Tremont to make his home with his daughter in 1939. During the first week in June of this year his condition became worse and he was critically ill since that time. When he died in his sleep this morning his physician and Mrs. Herb were at his bedside.
Deceased was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hoffman of Fearnot. He had no brothers or sisters. His wife died in 1926. The only survivor is Mrs. Henry Herb, who is their only child.
He was a member of the United Brethren Church, Fearnot.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but burial will be made in Fearnot. The funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. H. Mentzer, pastor of the Fearnot Church, assisted by the Rev. Albert Dambach, pastor of the Tremont United Brethren Church. H. A. Snyder of Tremont will be the funeral director.

MRS. HENRY G. HERB
Mrs. Alice Herb, wife of Henry G. Herb, of Spring Street, Tremont, died at 2:15 Monday afternoon in the Allentown General Hospital. In failing health for many months, Mrs. Herb was taken to the Allentown Hospital on Tuesday of the week before her death, and underwent an operation last Friday.
Bora in Fearnot, she was a daughter of Charles and Justina Schwalm [Hoffman].
Mrs. Herb was a faithful member of the United Brethren in Christ Church, Tremont, was a member of the church choir and took an active part in the various activities of the church societies.
Her husband, member of the Tremont Borough School Board for many years and manager of the Williams Valley Lumber Company branch office in Tremont, himself in poor health, went to the hospital last week to visit his wife and when he collapsed there was retained as a patient to undergo an operation this week. However, when his wife's death occurred, the operation was postponed and he was brought home on Wednesday for a temporary stay until after her funeral.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Herb is survived by three children, Mrs. Ethel Warner of Reading, Ray, a high school teacher, and Earl, both of Metuchen, New Jersey.
Her funeral was held from the H. A. Snyder Funeral Home, Tremont, Thursday morning, followed by fur ther services in the Fearnot Church. Interment was made in the Fearnot cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. C. I. Summy pastor cf the Tremont United Breth ren Church, and the Rev. H. M Mentzer, of Valley View.

Mrs. Ethel M. Kerchner, 73, of Sinking Springs RD5, died in Reading Hospital early Saturday morning. Born in Sacramento, she was the daughter of the late James and Alice (Hoffman) Saltzer.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Lester, are one son, Elmer G. Gardner, of Reading; one daughter. Grace, wife of Robert Bonawitz, of Schuylkill Haven; two brothers, Ray C. Herb of Aletuchen, N. J; and Earl .Herb of Newfoundland, N. J; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning from Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, Wernersville, with interment in Fe72rnot Cemetery, Sacramento. Rev. Ralph E. Starr will officiate.

Mrs. Robert Bonawitz
Funeral services for Grace Bonawitz, 60, Schuylkill Haven wife of Robert Bonawitz, were conducted this morning in Pottsville with burial in St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove. She died Tuesday afternoon after suffering a heart attack while cutting grass at her home.
A former resident of Pine Grove, she was a beautician and a past president of these organizations: Pine Grove American Legion Auxiliary, the Pine Grove VFW Auxiliary, Pine Grove Business and Professional Womens Club and the auxiliary to the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Schuylkill Forest No. 50. She was also a past royal matron of Amaranth Circle, Pottsville; past worthy high priestess of the White Shrine of Pottsville, and a member of the Oriental Shrine, Reading.
Surviving are her husband, Robert; two daughters, Shirley, wife of Glenn A. Furman, Palmyra, and Michele, wife of Richard L. Wetzel, Tremont; a brother, Elmer G. Gardner, Reading, and three grand-children.

He was born in Tremont Township and resided in Schuylkill Haven before moving to Villas 13 years ago.
He was a retired supervisor for Fox Knapp, Pine Grove.
Mr. Bonawitz served with the Army during World War II.
He was a member of Pine Grove Lodge 409 of the Masons, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory, Rajah Temple Shrine, Harrisburg, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Schuylkill Forest 50, Schuylkill Shrine Club, American Legion Post of Pine Grove, Ex-Servicemen's Club, Pine Grove, and he was a former treasurer of Villas Civic Club.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret S; two daughters, Shirley Furman, Palmyra and Michelle Wetzel, Pine Grove; seven stepchildren, 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Esther Williams, and Mary Vigurs, both of Villas, and Matilda Fox, Pine Grove.

Elmer G. Gardner Jr., 90, formerly of Wyomissing, passed January 5th in the Reading Hospital. He was a real people person and a very social guy, enjoying life until the very end. One of his favorite haunts was the YR Club.
He was the widower of Joan E. (Barry) Gardner with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Born in Reading, PA he was the son of the late Elmer Gardner Sr. and Ethel (Saltzer) Kerchner.
Elmer graduated from Reading High School, class of 1949, proudly served in the US Navy and was a member of Reading Lodge 549 F&AM and Rajah Shrine, Valley of Reading. He was also a graduate of American Foundry Association, Cast Metals Institute.
Elmer retired from Neenah Foundry Co., Neenah, Wisconsin, and also worked at Kutztown Foundry & Machine Co., Kutztown, PA.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Tracy (Gardner), wife of Neil Perate, and Roxanne (Confer), wife of Tom Evans, 2 grandchildren, Ashley Grande and Jocelyn Kearney and 4 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by sons, Keith A. Gardner and Guy B. Gardner and a sister Grace Bonawitz.
A memorial service will be held in the Spring to celebrate his life. Interment will be at Charles Evans Cemetery.

Joan E. (Barry) Gardner, 82, of Wyomissing, passed away October 15th, in Berks Heim.
Born in Reading, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Dorothy (Wetten) Barry.
Joan was a graduate of Reading High School, Class of 1953. She retired from Rockwell International as their receptionist. She later worked in Better Sportswear at John Wanamaker's. Joan enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and loved her dogs.
She was the wife of and survived by Elmer G. Gardner Jr. with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.
She is also survived by one daughter, Tracy (Gardner) Perate, wife of Neil Perate; two granddaughters, Ashley, wife of Ben Grande, Jocelyn, wife of Heath Kearney; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Linda Barry, Kim (Barry) Suess and her husband, Tom; and two brothers, Gene Barry, husband of Shirley, and Lynn Barry.
She was predeceased by two sons, Keith A. Gardner and Guy B. Gardner. She was also predeceased by a sister,
Beverly (Barry) Kear; and brother, Robert Barry Jr.
A memorial service will be held at Henninger Funeral Home Inc., on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to the time of service.

Funeral services for Lester E. Kerchner, 59, of Sinking Spring R5, were held Tuesday it 1:30 p.m. in the Lamm and Witman Funeral Home, Wernersvllle.
The Rev. Ralph E. Starr officiated. Burial followed in St. John's (Hain's) United Church of Christ Cemetery, Wernersville.
Born in Lower Heidelberg Township, a son of ths tots William K. and Mary Brossman Kerchner, he was predeceased Feb. 1 by his wife, Ethel M. Saltzer Kerchner.
He is survived by a step-son, Robert Gardner, Reading; a stepdaughter, Grace, wife of Robert Bonawitz, Schuylkill Haven; and five sisters: Margaret, wife of Raymond Whitmoyer, and Helen, wife of Lloyd Wayne, both of Sinking Spring R5; Mabel, wife of Harry Spohn, Reinholds: and Naomi, wife of Ray Berger, and Mrs. Florence Smith, both of Reading.

Metuchen -- Henry G. Herb, 78, who made his home here with his son, Ray Herb, of 106 Linden Ave., died Saturday (Nov. 14, 1953.) He was a native of Fearnot Pa.
Survivors include another son, Earle A. Herb of Newfoundland (N. J.); a sister, Mrs. Clarence Leinbach of Reading, Pa; and a brother, Daniel Herb of Heggins, Pa. His wife, Mrs. Alice Hoffman Herb, preceded him in death.

METUCHEN -- Ray C. Herb, 66, of 106 Linden Ave., died Tuesday (Oct. 28, 1969) in Atlanta, while visiting a friend.
A retired Metuchen High School teacher, he was a past president of the Board of Health, a former treasurer of the Metuchen Republican Club and treasurer of the Retired Teachers Association of Middlesex County.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church here and Mount Zion Lodge, F.&A.M. and was a vice president of the Lebanon Valley (Pa.) College Alumni Association.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Bernice Herb; two daughters, Mrs. Thor Rinden of Brooklyn and Miss Sally S. Herb of New York, and a brother, Earle Herb of Newfoundland.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the First Presbyterian Church here with Dr. A. H. Behrenberg officiating. Interment will be in the Presbyterian Church cemetery. There will be no calling hours at Runyon Mortuary.

Bernice Deibler Herb died Friday at Monroe Village. She was 92.
Born in Valley View, Pa., she lived in Metuchen before moving to Monroe Village in 1990.
Mrs. Herb was the owner of Bernice D. Herb Real Estate, Metuchen, before her retirement in the early 1970s. Previously, she worked for Fred Bates, a real estate agency.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Metuchen.
She was president of the New Jersey chapter of Zonta International, a professional women's organization. She was a member of the Metuchen Historical Society and the Metuchen Garden Club.
She was a graduate of Beckley College in Harrisburg, Pa. Upon graduation, she helped restructure the Valley View bank during the Depression.
Surviving are two daughters, Jane L. Rinden of Brooklyn and Sally S. of Frenchtown; a brother, Ralph Deibler of Royersford, Pa., and a sister, Mary Alice Crabbe of Charleston, S.C.
According to her wishes, no services were held. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
