Faye Edith Artz, 97, of Spring Glen, died Tuesday at The Manor at Susquehanna Village, Millersburg.
Born in Spring Glen, Oct. 17, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Hannah C. Bowman Carl.
She retired as a seamstress from the former Valley View Garment Factory, Valley View. She and her husband were the former owners of the former Artz's Sunoco Station, Spring Glen.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento, where she was recently recognized for being the oldest member with 81 years.
Her husband, Paul M. Artz, died in 1964. She was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Richard Artz and Terry Hoffman.
Surviving are two sons, Robert E. Artz, Mechanicsburg, and Charles E., husband of Velma Artz, Lebanon; a daughter, Arlene M. Reed, Spring Glen; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View.
A viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Sacramento.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento, Pa. 17968.

Terry J. Hoffman, 58, of 306 W. Maple St., Valley View, died Monday at Pottsville Hospital.
Born in Gratz, Jan. 9, 1944, he was a son of William Reed [Joseph M. Hoffman] and Arlene Artz Reed, Spring Glen.
He worked as a truck driver for Natural Soil Products, Good Spring.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, the former Brenda Koppenhaver; two daughters, Vicki Weber, Valley View; and Michelle Smith, Hegins; a brother, William Reed III, Valley View;, a maternal grandmother, Faye Artz, Spring Glen; three grandchildren.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday from Bufflngton Reed Funeral Home, Valley View. The Rev. Curtis Zemencik will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Sacramento.

     Joseph Mike Hoffman was born on 10 April 1925, Gratz, Dauphin County, PA.1 He was the son of Eston J. Hoffman and Annie B. Hartman.2 Joseph Mike Hoffman married Arlene Mary Artz, daughter of Moses Paul Artz and Faye Edith Carl, on 26 July 1943, Harrisburg, Dauphin County, PA.1,2 Joseph Mike Hoffman died on 8 July 1945, Gmunden Bezirk, Upper Austria, Austria, at age 20. According to some sources, the place of death was Linz, Austria.1,3

Funeral For Gratz Soldier on Sunday
Funeral services for Pfc. Joseph M. Hoffman of Gratz, whose body was recently returned to the United States from Europe, will be held from the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eston Hoffman, Gratz, at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
Rev. W. Z. Artz, pastor of Simeon's Lutheran Church, Gratz, of which he was a member, will officiate, and interment will be in the Gratz Union Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by members of Shade Post, American Legion, Gratz.
The body will lie in state at his parents' home, Saturday, from 7:00 to 9:00 P. M.
Pfc. Hoffman entered the army July 18, 1943 and received his training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and Camp Bowie, Texas. He lost his life July 8, 1945 at Linz, Austria, in a motor vehicle accident, while returning from a rest camp.
He was attached to Battery C, 174th Field Artillery and while in the European Theater of Operations, saw duty in six countries. He served with the 1st, 3rd, and 9th Armies, and was serving with the 3rd Army at the time of his death.
In addition to the ETO Ribbon, he received five bronze stars and the Good Conduct Medal, and on April 23, 1945 was awarded the Certificate of Merit for his participation with the 8th Artillery Corps in breaking through the Seigfried Line, and the crossing of the Rhine into central Germany.
Pfc. Hoffman is survived by his parents, one son, Terry; one sister, Mrs. Robert Hain, Elizabethville; four brothers, William, of Hegins; and Roland, Robert, and Dale, all at home; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Hoffman of Hegins R. D.4
He was buried on 23 January 1949, at Simeon United Lutheran Church Cemetery, Gratz, Dauphin County, PA.1
