  • Norman A. Bendel died on 12 April 1978, Heidelberg Township, Lehigh County, PA, at age 78, in a traffic accident. One newspaper reported the incident as follows:
    Route 100 crash fatal to man
    Norman A. Bendel, 78, of Box 81, Orefield R.2, was killed yesterday afternoon when his car rammed the rear of a halted truck-tractor along Route 100, a half-mile south of Pleasant Corners in Heidelberg Township.
    He was pronounced dead at the scene bv Deputy Lehigh County Coroner Dr. George Heintzelman. Death was due to head and internal injuries.
    State police at Fogelsville said Bendel was traveling south on Route 100 when his car rammed the rear of a truck-tractor driven by Alexander McNeil Jr., 60, of Box 4036 Allentown.
    Troopers said McNeil was stopped for a Northwestern School District school bus which was discharging passengers when the accident happened at 3:05 p.m.

    FORMER COUNTY EMPLOYE DIES
    John H. Bohner, 58, prominent reside of Hebe and for many years a clerk in the county commissioners' office here, died at his home Monday afternoon from a complication after an illness of several months.
    He was born and reared in Jordan Township and spent his entire lifetime in the vicinity of Hebe. He owned a large farm which he worked for some years before accepting a position as highway foreman in his township. He later became a clerk in the commissioners' office, serving for nine years until September of 1932.
    He spent his early years as a school teacher, a profession he followed for more than 20 years in the schools of Jordan Township. In addition he possessed unusual musical talent and gave lessons for many years to a large class of students.
    He was active in affairs of the community and county for many years. In addition he was an active member of the P. O. S. of A. and the Reformed church at Hebe.
    Surviving are his wife Fannie, one son, Boyd, of Hebe; three grandchildren; three brothers, Jacob Bohner, Reading; Charles Bohner, Lykens, and William Bohner, Hebe merchant; two sisters, Mrs. Richard Haas, Cameron, and Mrs. Jennie Deppen, Hebe.
    Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the old Bohner homestead in Hebe and will be continued in St. David's church, Hebe. Rev. Jacob Singer, Reformed pastor, will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Charles Herman, Urban, and Rev. A. J. Henning, McClure. Interment will be made in the church cemetery.

    William L. Bohner, 94, of Hebe, passed away on May 25, 2021, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
    He was born in Hebe on August 25, 1926, a son of the late Violet and Boyd Bohner. William graduated from Lower Mahanoy Township High School, Dalmatia. He worked as a farmer, carpenter, rural mail carrier, bus driver, and a basketball referee. He was a member of David's UCC, Hebe. William served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Radio Communications Operator. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
    William is survived by his daughter, Beverly (Robert) Spatzer; son, Brian (Lisa) Bohner; two grandsons, Jeffrey Spatzer, Tyler Bohner; two granddaughters, Jill Burrows, Alexandria Patrick; two great-grandchildren, Tanner Spatzer, Gavin Burrows; and sister, Donna (Larry) Keeley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Betty Bohner in 2018, sister, Arabelle Troutman, and brother, Dean Bohner.
    Private services will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in the David's Church Cemetery, Hebe.3
