    Ann W. Cassar, 86, of Concord Township, PA passed away on May 20, 2019 at Riddle Hospital. Born in Shillington, PA to Luther and Martha Weik, she lived in Wilmington, DE briefly before moving to Concord Township where she resided over 50 years. Ann graduated from Shillington High School as co-valedictorian with author, John Updike, in 1950. She attended Albright College, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors in Chemistry in 1954. Upon graduation she worked at the technical library indexing lab reports at Atlas Powder Co. (now Astra-Zeneca). She left Atlas to raise her family, returning to work as a freelance indexer until 2017 for major publishers in the US and India. Ann had a passion and talent for music, playing cello in the Delaware County Symphony, several string quartets and many community productions. She was instrumental in the production of an annual Messiah sing-along at the Brandywine Baptist Church which she attended most of her life. Interest in her family's genealogy led her to become an active participant in the Johannes Schwalm Historical Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cassar who died in 2018, a son, David Cassar, and her sister Jean Hertzog. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Cassar (Jill Sanders) and James Cassar (Tianjia Wang) as well as three grandchildren, Rachel, Grace and Chelsea Cassar. A visitation will be held on June 9, 2019, Sunday, 12:00 - 1:00PM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd. Garnet Valley, PA followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00PM.     Richard Douglass Cassar, age 87, a longtime Concord Township, PA resident passed away on September 2, 2018. Born in Wilmington, DE to Grant and Dorothy Siebecker Cassar, he served in the US Army Chemical Corps. at Fort McClellan, AL. Richard was employed as a research chemist by Sun Oil for many years where he authored 23 patents. He later founded and operated his own industrial hygiene business until his retirement. An Eagle Scout and scoutmaster, he was the recipient of the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. Richard particularly enjoyed his work on the Eagle Scout board of review. He was an avid and knowledgeable outdoorsman with a vast and remarkable memory. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Cassar and son, David Cassar. He is survived by his wife, Ann Weik Cassar, son Thomas, and his wife Jill Sanders, son James and his wife Tianjia Wang and 3 grandchildren; Rachel, Grace and Chelsea Cassar. A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 8th from 9:00 - 10:00AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA followed by a Memorial Service at 10:00AM. Interment, private. Memorial donations may be sent to Cradle of Liberty Council - Boy Scouts of America 1485 Valley Forge Rd., Wayne, PA 19087.2

    Jean Weik Hertzog, 81, formerly of Bethlehem, PA, passed away on Sat., Jan. 5, 2019. Jean was the wife of the late Merlin F. Hertzog. Born in Shillington on Jan. 29, 1937, she was the daughter of Luther and Martha (Schach) Weik. She was a graduate of Moravian College and Lehigh University and was an active member in the Moravian Church. Jean worked as a nursery school teacher at First Presbyterian and served as a volunteer EMT for Hanover Township. She enjoyed sharing her love of sewing, knitting and crocheting through her many different volunteer activities. She will be remembered for her keen intellect, kindness, and good sense of humor. A loving wife, mother and grand- mother, Jean is survived by daughter, Beth A. Hertzog, of Reading; daughter, Joanne L. and her husband, Robert Kern of Slatington; daughter, Carol A. and her husband, James Milot of Bath; daughter, Nancy H. and her husband, Richard Covell Jr. of Wolcott, CT; sister, Anne Cassar of Thorton; 5 of 6 grandchildren (Matthew Rhudy, Stephanie Kern, Gregg Kern, Corey Covell, and Christopher Milot); and 6 great-grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Merlin, and grandson, Christopher Rhudy. Services will be held privately at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, as Jean’s volunteer activities and passions included people of all ages as well as rescue animals, contributions may be made in Jean’s memory to the charity of your choice.
