Beulah May Brosius1

F, #15240, b. 20 October 1890, d. 1 March 1948
  • Last Edited: 13 Jan 2025
  • Beulah May Brosius was born on 20 October 1890, Dauphin County, PA.6,3
  • She was the daughter of William Ellsworth Brosius and Agnes Kerstetter.2,3,4
  • Some sources, such as www.findagrave.com, list Beulah's mother as Mary A. Schoffstall Brosius, but that is inconsistent with both Beulah's death certificate and her newspaper obituary which list "Aggie" or Agnes Kerstetter as her mother. Beulah's obituary lists her parents as "William and Agnes (Kerstetter) Brosius, but no record of any marriage between William Brosius and an Agnes Kerstetter has been located. Only one "Agnes Kerstetter" of the appropriate age has been located in the Dauphin, Northumberland County area. She was named Clara Agnes Kerstetter, daughter of Aaron Kerstetter, and in 1892 she married married Christian Schuler. They lived in Trevorton, PA. Available records do not indicate any connection between her and Beulah Brosius or William Brosius. Because her marriage to Christian Schuler occurred about 2 years after Beulah was born, it is possible that Beulah was born out of wedlock. That would be consistent with the 1900 Census, where the 9-year old Beulah was living with her grandparents, Michael and Barbara Brosius, William's parents, in Jordan Township, Northumberland County, PA. William Brosius was also married, about 1892, and in the 1900 Census, William and his wife Mary were living in Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA, with 3 sons. The 1900 Census says Mary gave birth to 3 children, all of whom were then living, presumably the 3 sons listed in her and William's household. This tends to disprove that Mary was Beulah's mother. Mary's obituary does not list Beulah as a survivor and says only that she was survived by 2 sons and that "one son and one daughter" preceded her in death. This is further evidence that Beulah was not Mary's daughter.7,3,4,8,9,5,10
  • Beulah May Brosius married William Oscar Wolfe, son of Henry A. Wolfe and Emma S. Dubendorf, circa 1909.1,11
  • Beulah May Brosius died on 1 March 1948, Geisinger Memorial Hospital, Danville, Montour County, PA, at age 57.3,6
  • Newspaper obituary:
    MRS. BEULAH WOLFE
Mrs. Beulah Wolfe, age 57 years, of Herndon R. D. 1, wife of W. Oscar Wolfe, died in the Geisinger Memorial Hospital, Danville, Monday evening.
She was a daughter of William and Agnes (Kerstetter) Brosious, and was a native of Dauphin County. She was a member of the Urban Reformed Church and the Daughters of America lodge of Herndon.
Survivors are her husband, her father, William Brosious of Gratz; a son, Melvin Wolfe, four g:anddaughters, and two brothers, Jay Brosious of Gratz, and Charles Brosious, of Cortland New York.
Services will be held from the residence at 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, with further services in the Urban Lutheran and Reformed Church. Rev. J. M. Singer and Rev. Ralph Alderfer will officiate, and interment will be in the Urban Cemetery.
