William Albert Klinger is also referred to as William Albert Bieman in some sources.4,3 He was born on 18 November 1904, Glasgow, Jefferson County, IA.2,3,5,6 He was the son of Otis Wilson Klinger and Frances Barbara Gansert.1 William Albert Klinger was baptized on 9 April 1905, First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waterloo, Black Hawk County, IA. The baptismal record, which is in German, lists both his biological parents (Otis Klinger and Frances Gansert) and his adoptive parents (J.H. "Beaman" and Louise Meier). It appears to list the date of birth as 9 April 1905.7 In May, 1905 William was adopted by Henry and Louise Bieman.3 At the time of the 1910 Census, "Willie", a 4-year old adopted son, was living in the household of Henry and Louise Bieman, in Waterloo Township, Black Hawk County, IA.8 He married Irene Mildred Shufelt, daughter of Claude Shufelt and Mary Goodenbour, on 7 January 1933, Williamstown Methodist Church, Williamstown, IA.3,9 William was given a 60-day sentence after pleading guilty in federal court in Dubuque, IA, for the illegal sale of liquor on which federal tax had not been paid. He was brought to Waterloo to serve the time in Black Hawk County prison. A newspaper reported:
Four Brought to Waterloo.
Two northeast Iowa men, given sentences in federal court at Dubuque, Ia., for illegal sale of liquor on which federal tax was not paid, were brought Waterloo late Thursday to serve their terms in Black Hawk county jail. William A. Bieman, 34, Frederika farmer, was given a 60-day jail term after pleading guilty before Federal District Judge George C. Scott."
