Mary Lou Rizer1

  • Mary Lou Rizer was born on 29 July 1937.1
  • She married Jack L. Strohecker, son of Boyd Roosevelt Strohecker and Pauline Roberta Hoover, circa 1957.1
  • Mary Lou Rizer died on 14 March 2025, at age 87.1
  • Funeral home obituary:
    Mary Lou Strohecker
    July 29, 1937 - March 14, 2025
HALIFAX - Beloved Christian, daughter, wife, mother, Nana, Gi Gi, respected business woman, and co-founder of Accu-Mold & Tool Co., Inc. d/b/a Accu-Mold Plastics, Mary Lou Rizer Strohecker Couche was promoted to her eternal heavenly home on March 14, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family at her residence.
Mary Lou was the daughter of the late Herman Benjamin (Frosty) Rizer and Helen Druzilla (Druzy) Johnson Rizer of Frostburg, Maryland. Mary Lou was proceeded in death by her first husband Jack L. Strohecker Sr. Jack was the love of her life for 35 years and together they were blessed with four children, Dana L. Buffington and her husband Keith of Halifax, Jack L. Strohecker II and his wife Dawn of Halifax, Renae L. Rizer and her partner in life Jimmy Fowler of Spring Hill, Florida and Kathryn Luanne Strohecker and her partner in life Kevin Hoover of Halifax. Through her children, Mary Lou was given the gift of five grandchildren whom they called Nana, Elijah Buffington and his partner in life Rebecca, Kandace Farhat and her husband Garam, Anthony Wright and his wife Mia, Carissa Strohecker Hannum and her husband Dylan, and Randee Wright and her husband Austin. Mary Lou was gifted once again, when the next generation of great grandchildren arrived, whom they called GiGi, Hayden, Natalynn, Alyana, Jaxx, Julianna, Natalie, Amara and Micah.
Mary Lou came from very humble beginnings in Frostburg, Maryland. God decided he needed another angel and called her mother to her eternal home when Mary Lou was only six years old. At this time is when faith was ingrained in Mary Lou. Upon graduating from Beall High School, she knew she was going to set out on her own. This determination led her to Washington, DC where she lived and worked for the Secretary of Agriculture. Had she not been guided down this pathway from the good Lord above, she never would have met her husband Jack who was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base. After marrying, the couple moved to a few locations prior to setting roots in her husband's hometown of Halifax.
Mary Lou and Jack started a small manufacturing company in the basement of their home. That company grew, moved out of the basement of the house to its current location and became known as Accu-Mold Plastics. A family operated business that has provided numerous jobs for the community since 1972.
After losing Jack, Mary Lou found love again with Charles (Charlie) F. Couche Jr. of New Bloomfield. Marrying Charlie grew the family adding five step-daughters, their husbands, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family gatherings were quite large with a minimum of 45 family members in attendance. Mary Lou and Charlie were married for 30 years until his passing on December 20, 2024.
Mary Lou was always ready for an adventure, whether it was spending time with family and the shenanigans that conspired, spontaneous (which were quite frequent) or planned shopping trips, traveling to numerous locations around the world. Mary Lou called home to various places in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Florida. The most favorite, by far was the shore, and spending it with family and friends. There are many memories of fishing, crabbing or clamming on the boats named Early Rizer, Early Rizer II, Business, and Hello Mary Lou. Her love of eating hard shelled crabs was passed down to us all. Her husband Jack, always said "He married the biggest crab in Maryland" laughter would arise.
For family and friends Mary Lou will be remembered for her strong faith and instilling that faith into her family.
Always being a lady, no matter what situation she found herself. Always being the best dressed in the room. Her love of iced tea, we all have tea stains on the passenger side of our vehicles. Enjoying the many birds (and other wildlife) that came to feast at the feeders. Being at the top of her driveway with her bubble gun and sign "Beep for Bubbles." Collecting, especially peacocks, manatees, and mermaids. Her love of Elvis, Kenny Rogers, and Toby Keith (also the name of her teacup Yorkie-Tobe), Mary Lou also enjoyed listening to her first granddaughter, Kandace sing whenever she could. As she moved closer to being with her Heavenly Host, Mary Lou requested that her music be played.
Mary Lou was a member of Halifax Community Church, Willard-Waterman Court No. 54, Order of the Amaranth-Past Royal Matron, The Glenn Chapter No. 425, Order of Eastern Star, Halifax VFW Post 5750, Millersburg American Legion Auxiliary Unit 326, and Millersburg Moose Lodge 59.
Besides her family, Mary Lou is also survived by her half-brother Herman Rizer and his wife Nancy of Parkton, Maryland, half-brother Robert Rizer and his wife Mary Ann of Frostburg, Maryland, half-sister Susan Ervin of Carroll Island, Maryland and cousin Henrietta (Bunny) Cooper of Frostburg, Maryland, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the Mermaids that cared so tenderly, carefully, and thoughtfully. ''Just keep swimming" "Text when your home" and "Be careful."
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Halifax Community Church, 105 Wind Hill Drive, Halifax, PA 17032 or Save the Manatee Club, 317 Wekiva Springs Road, Suite 100, Longwood, FL 32779
