  • Funeral home obituary:
    Douglas Richard West
    April 1, 1959 - July 5, 2016
Douglas Richard West passed away on July 5, 2016.
Born in Virginia on April 1, 1959 to Richard Lee West and Barbara Straub West. Doug Is survived by his son Philip West and his fianc Stephanie; his longtime partner, Kim Stewart and her daughter Brittnie; a brother Greg West; a sister Lori Vanlandingham and her husband Mike and their daughter Ashley and his granddaughter Haley. His dog Rosco and his cat, Millie (who he really did not like) are missing him greatly.
His love of 4 wheeling could only be matched by his love of boating. His boat, “Without a Paddle” was his pride and joy. He could often be found on it with a fishing rod in one hand and a Bud Lite in the other. A faithful Redskins fan he would watch the games and cheer for his beloved team. He did all this after having his favorite meal, a Philly Cheese Steak on a hoagie roll. His freezer always had a supply of Root beer Popsicles which he loved. He watched many reruns of “Walker, Texas Ranger” with a Popsicle in hand. Whenever possible he would head to the “4 X 4 Beach” where he could just be a “kid”. He loved playing in the sand.
His brother Greg will never forget the time his dirt bike was stolen from him. That was the time his brother (Doug) got him a new dirt bike and put it in his kitchen. Needless to say this was quite the surprise. But that was Doug, full of surprises.
When Kims daughter Brittnie first met Doug she wanted to make a good impression and knew the way to do that was with a case of Bud Lite. That assured her a place in his heart. She has fond memories of his quirky habit of putting “?” on dogs heads with a sharpie marker. He did not need a reason to do this, he just knew it would make people smile.
Doug was a good ole boy. A fantastic Dad and exceptional life partner. The joy he brought others and the memories he left will be treasured forever.
The family will receive friends at the Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home 13318 Occoquan Road in Woodbridge, VA 22191 on Friday July 8th from 6 - 7 PM with a service to start at 7 PM. Interment will be private.
Please either drink a Bud or have a root beer Popsicle in honor of Doug. He will be missed.
