    Army veteran
    SOMERVILLE - William R. Cease, 81, died Sunday (Aug. 25, 2002) at his residence in Somerville, with his family at his side. Born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., he resided in Somerville since 1946.
    He was employed as a letter carrier for the Somerville Post Office for more than 40 years, retiring in 1981. Bill was an Army staff sergeant during World War II, receiving seven medals for his heroic accomplishments for services to his country.
    He was a life member of the American Legion Post 12 in Somerville, and also served on the Color & Honor Guard. He was a member of the VFW Post 2290 in Manville; the Eagles Club 2137 in Bridgewater; and the Somerville Rescue Squad, where he was past president and captain. He was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Somerville. Bill was an avid fisherman. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
    He was predeceased by three brothers, James, Charles and Earl Cease.
    Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy E; two daughters, Joan Cusati and husband, Ralph and Nancy Pastore and her husband, Basil; a sister, Doris Schaffer; a brother, Bruce Cease; grandchildren, Mark Cusati, Art Pastore, Dawn Stiles and Susan Bugal; and seven great-grandchildren, Jeanne, Greg, Jarrett, Derek, Morgan, Hailee, and Ashley.
    The funeral will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 101 North Gaston Ave., Somerville, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral service at First United Methodist Church, 48 West High St., Somerville. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick, with military honors. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

    Doris J. M. Cease Schaeffer, 88, of Honesdale, died Sunday She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce A. Schaeffer, on Jan. 18, 2000.
    Born Aug. 26, 1922, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter and last surviving member of the late Earl L. and Jennie "Jean" Worrell Cease family. Doris was a descendant of the founding families of Ceasetown, Pa., and Klingertown, Pa.
    She was a strong Christian. An avid reader, Doris was talented in quilting, sewing, crocheting and ceramics. She enjoyed the friendships she found at Maple City Apartments and was active in their community.
    She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother.
    Surviving are four daughters, Patricia M. McGinnis, Honesdale; Kathleen A. Gauss and husband, James, Owatonna, Minn; Frances Zegar and husband, Eugene, West Chester; and Christine S. Walker and husband, Thomas J., Princeton, N. J; two sisters-in-law, Amy Cease, Honesdale; and Dorothy Cease, Somerville, N.J; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
    She was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Jacob Smith; and five brothers, Earl "Jack," William "Bill," James "Jimmy," Charles "Charlie" and Warren "Bruce" Cease.
    The funeral will be Thursday with services at 3:30 p.m. in the Hessling Funeral Home Inc., 428 Main St., Honesdale. Cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. Private interment will be in Indian Orchard Cemetery Texas Twp., at the convenience of the family.

    Pfc. James Edwin Cease was killed in action on Okinawa on April 1 according to word received on Tuesday, V-E Day, by Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Smith with whom he formerly resided. News of his death came in an official telegram from the War Department.
    Pfc. Cease entered the service in September of 1943 and was assigned to the Marines. The following January he was sent overseas. He was in the invasion of Saipan and Tinian before serving on Okinawa.
    At the time he entered service hewas employed at the Ford Motor Twins in this city. Prior to that he attended GAR High School.
    The last letter received from him by his cousin, Mrs. Smith, with whom he made his home, was dated March 22 of this year from Saipan. At that time he was in good spirits and good health.
    He was a member of the Dana street Evangelical Church.
    Besides the Smiths with whom he made his home, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Jean Cease Smith, Newark, N. J; his father, Earl Cease, Allentown, and the following brothers and sister, Sgt. Williams Cease, with the Medical Corps overseas; Seaman John Cease, with the U. S. Navy; Warren Cease, with the Merchant Marine, and Mrs. Joseph Smith, Newark, N. J.

    Dorothy E. "Dot" Cease, 90, entered eternal rest on January 29, 2013. Dorothy was born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania and resided in Somerville since 1946. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, knitting, gardening and was an avid bowler. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Somerville where she was active with United Methodist Women's Group. She was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary unit 12 and the Somerset County unit. Dorothy was a member and past president of the Somerville Rescue Squad Auxiliary. Dot will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
    She is predeceased by her husband William R. Cease who passed away in 2002, a daughter Nancy Pastore in 2003 and 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Surviving are her daughter Joan Cusati and her husband Ralph and 5 grandchildren, Mark and Joe Cusati, Art Pastore, Dawn Stiles and Susan Bugal and 8 great grandchildren.

    Born in Nantocoke, Pa., she formerly resided in Somerville before moving to Raritan 41 years ago. Nancy was an executive secretary with Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceuticals in Raritan for the past 25 years.
    She immensely enjoyed spending time at their family home at the Jersey Shore. She cherished her family, especially her grandchildren.
    Nancy was a communicant of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Raritan.

    Biagio “Basil” Pastore, 80, of Bridgewater, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at his home. Born in Somerville, NJ, he resided in Raritan, NJ for 69 years before moving to Bridgewater 11 years ago.
    Basil worked for many years for the Fur Dressers Union in New York City where he worked as a Furrier before his retirement in 1990.
    He was a communicant of St. Ann’s R.C. Church in Raritan.
    Basil was a workaholic, enjoyed going to the racetrack, spending quality time with his family, and never missed one of his grandson’s baseball games. His loving candor and tremendous heart will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
    Basil is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Carmela and Arthur Pastore, and his beloved wife of 41 years, Nancy Cease Pastore (2003).
    Surviving are his dear son, Arthur of Raritan, NJ, two loving daughters, Dawn and husband Neal Stiles of Indian Trail, NC, and Susan and husband Tim Bugal of Raritan, NJ; his brother, Joseph of Pittstown, NJ; his sister, Rita Benestad of West Palm Beach, FL; and six cherished grandchildren, Jarrett, Derek, Morgan, Hailee, Ashley, and Peyton.

    TAMPA, FL- Glenn A. Spotts, 67, of Tampa, FL and formerly of Millersburg, passed away on Aug. 31, 2017 at Fairway Oaks Rehab Hospital in Tampa.
    He was born July 8, 1950 in Lykens, the son of the late Arthur Spotts and Geraldine Engle Spotts who survives him of Millersburg.
    Glenn graduated in 1968 from Millersburg Area High School and had a Masters Degree in engineering from West Virginia University and a Masters Degree in architecture from the University of Florida. He recently retired from the VA Hospital in Tampa, where he worked as an engineer. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Millersburg.
    Surviving in addition to his mother is a brother Dean of Millersburg.
    Memorial services will be held on Thursday Sept. 21 at 11 am at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Millersburg. Inurnment at the convenience of the family at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Halifax.
