Harold Snyder1

M, #58349, b. circa 1932
  • Last Edited: 30 Oct 2024
  • Harold Snyder is also referred to as Carl Lee Snyder in some sources. A reference to a Harold Snyder in the 1940 Census is probably a reference to Carl Lee Snyder.
  • He was born circa 1932.1
  • He was the son of Charles Lee Snyder and Gertrude Mae Snyder.1
  • While a "Harold Snyder" is listed in the 1940 Census as a son of Charles and Gertrude, obituaries for both Charles and Gertrude Snyder as well as for his purported siblings Clair, Carl and Robert Snyder make no mention of Harold while listing other children and siblings. The 1940 Census omits any reference to Charles and Gertrude's son Carl Lee Snyder who was born c. 1933 and who is listed in their household in the 1950 Census. Thus it is possible, perhaps likely, that the listing for "Harold" in the 1940 Census is actually a mistaken reference for for Carl.
Another Harold Snyder, born c. 1932, is also listed as a son of Gertrude's parents, David and Maude, in the 1940 Census. It is also possible but less likely that "Harold" was listed twice in the 1940 Census and that he was actually Gertrude's brother, not son.
An obituary for Harold W. Snyder states:
    Harold W. 'Pap' Snyder Sr.
    November 7, 2010
Harold W. "Pap" Snyder Sr., 79, of Lykens, passed away Sunday at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Washington Township, Aug. 15, 1931, he was a son of the late David and Maude Schell Snyder.
He retired from TRW after 35 years of service.
He served his country in the Army and the Pennsylvania National Guard. He was a member of American Legion Post 124.
    Harold enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Clara M. Bechtel Snyder; two sons, Harold W Snyder Jr., Williamstown, and Robert S. Snyder and his wife, Lori, Lykens; a daughter, Anna Marie Hoi and her husband, Scott, Muir; two sisters, Verna Kress, Lykens, and Shirley Bowerman, Williamstown; three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, with Pastor Kay D. Schwab officiating. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax.

Miller reported that Snyder, who was carrying a shot gun and walking in the center of the west bound traffic lane seemed to be ill and staggering when he noticed him about 30 feet in front of his which time Miller said he swerved sharply to the left but brushed him with the right front fender.
