  • Franklin B. Miller was born in March 1863, Berrysburg RD, Dauphin County, PA.1
  • He was the son of Henry J. Miller and Lydia Shaffer.1
  • Franklin B. Miller married Tamie Sevilla Morgan, daughter of William Morgan and Pauline Ney.1
  • During his youth, Frank worked on his father's farm; but, while still a very young man, left home to work for a carpenter. He followed this trade until his retirement. Frank made his home near the south side of the mountain in the vicinity of Valley View.
During his young life, while still living at home, Frank and two of his brothers, Amos and Samuel, always looked forward to attending the Gratz fair each autumn. To get there, each would ride the several miles to the fair grounds and back on his own horse.
Several of Frank's living descendants (1911) remember him well and described him as a rather handsome looking individual of average height and who had, later in life, snowy white hair and a bushy mustache. He had a very fair and blemish-free complexion and, even in old age, very few wrinkles.
One of Frank's dislikes was the taste of tomatoes. In fact, he thought that they were better suited to the diet of pigs. He did, however, enjoy wine and oft times was prompted to serve some of his own making, which he stored in his wine cellar. He was fond of dogs, and two Airedales were his constant companions. If he was relaxing somewhere in his home, the two dogs were usually found with him -- one sitting on either side.
Because of the distances between their residences, the Miller brothers and sisters did not visit each other very often. It was always an important event that would draw them together and, unfortunately, many such occasions were funerals. Harry Yarnell, a nephew, remembers seeing "Uncle Frank" for the first time back at George Miller's home in Mabel after the funeral of Mrs. George Miller in 1925.
Frank worked on his father's farm; but, while yet a very young man, he left his home to learn the trade of carpenter. He followed this trade his entire lifetime. Frank and Sevillia lived in Valley View, near the mountain on the south side.
Frank's wife, Sevilla, was small in stature, quiet by nature, and an all-around pleasant person. She was particularly interested in gardening. (Source: Lois Green Schoffstall.)2
