HERNDON R.D. - William H. Haas, 71, a lifetime resident of Herndon R.D. died Wednesday afternoon at 2:10 in his home.
Born in Herndon R.D., July 12, 1901, Mr. Haas was a son of the late Edward and Clara (Raker) Haas. He was a farmer by trade.
Mr. Haas was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Red Cross, and the Woodmen of the World Camp 229, Trevorton.
Survivors include the widow, the former Katie Hoffman; one daughter, Mrs. Earl (Clara) Kahler, Elizabethville R.D; two sons, Dr. Melvin Haas, Redland, Calif., and Bruce Haas, Herndon R.D. four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Lawrence E. Rothermel Funeral Directors, Klingerstown R.D., are in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Melvin E. Haas, 79, Redlands, Calif.
REDLANDS, Calif. - Dr. Melvin Edward Haas, 79, a longtime resident of Redlands, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at home after battling cancer.
He was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Red Cross, Pa. He was married to Beth Haas.
He grew up in rural Pennsylvania, then pursued his love of education.
He was a graduate of Susquehanna University and earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical School, Philadelphia. He went on to complete his internship at Jefferson Medical School Hospital, and continued working in internal medicine, his specialty, at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School.
Dr. Haas served as a doctor in the Air Force stationed in Amarillo, Texas, as a captain.
After moving to Redlands in 1953, he joined the Beaver Medical Clinic in the internal medicine department until he retired in 1992 at the age of 70. He also served as chief of staff at Redlands Community Hospital.
Dr. Haas loved to travel, read, continue his education, play golf and bridge, spend time with his. family and spend time in Pennsylvania.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Kristin Verdieck of Laguna Niguel; one son, Timothy of San Diego; two stepdaughters, Lisa Diaz of Las Vegas and Lori Cook of Denver: two stepsons, Mark Klabe of Denver and Patrick DeClue of Beaumont; three grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; one brother, Bruce Haas of Hebe, Pa; and one sister, Clara Kahler of Elizabethville, Pa.
The service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Church, Red Cross.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1240 Palmyrita Ave., Suite A, Riverside, CA 92507.
Funeral arrangements were by the Hoover Funeral Homes Inc., 118 S. Market St., Millersburg, Pa..
