  • In 1920, Elwood was "single" and living in Coal Township, Northumberland County in a household headed by his brother-in-law William L. Dunmore and Elwood's sister Maud. Elwood was working as a "twister" in a silk mill. The 1920 Census for Detroit, MI, lists Savada Klinger, age 23, born in Pennsylvania, as living in the household of her mother Minnie Lentz. Savada was listed as "married," but no husband or child was part of that household.4,5
  • Elwood Elias Klinger married Katherine Irene Shaffer on 2 February 1924, Middletown, NY.6
  • The 1930 Census for Middletown, Orange County, NY, lists among the residents of the Middletown Homeopathic Hospital an "Elwood W. Klinger," age 33, born in Pennsylvania. It is not clear if this is the same Elwood Klinger.7

    Tharptown Man Dies in Hospital
    Elwood E. Khnger, 817 Tharp St., Tharptown, died last evening in Williamsport Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Klinger was a patient in Shamokin Hospital up until six weeks ago.
    Elwood E. Klinger, a son of the late Elias and Flora (Metz) Klinger, was born June 5, 1896, in Shamokin. He attended Washington elementary school in Shamokin and beganto work as a silk mill employe at the former Star Silk Company. South Fifth Street.
    Mr. Klinger served as foreman of the Star plant for a number of years and later held similar positions with silk companies in Middletown, Pa., and Middletown, NY. He was a World War I veteran anu for a number of years served as a drummer for the drum and bugle corps sponsored by the Thomas Stewart Camp of the Sons of Vete an unknown person ans. Mr. Klinger was member of Lincoln Post of the American Legion.
    Survivors include two sons, Elwood, Jr., and Harold, Detroit, Mich; two brothers. Frank, Cleveland, and Harold, Shamokin; four sisters. Mrs. Anna Parsons, Mrs. Maude Dunmoyer, Mrs. Alva Mutchler and Mrs. Minnie Fisher, Shamokin, and three grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 in Farrow Funeral Home, Sixth and Chestnut Streets. Rev. E. D. Ehrig, pastor of Trinity United Evangelical Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday evening, from 7:00 to 9:00, and Tuesday until time services.

    Born in Shamokin, July 19, 1927, he was a son of the late Harold and Jennie Quartz Klinger. He attended Shamokin schools. He was a veteran of World War H, having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and the Philippine Liberation Campaign as a first mate in the U.S. Coast Guard.
    He was of the Lutheran faith and a member of the Trevorton Veterans of Foreign Wars.
    He was preceded in death by three brothers, Wilbert, Harold and William.
    Surviving are two sisters, Ann Lindenmuth, Ashland, and Jennie Roth, Shamokin; nieces and nephews.
    Graveside services will be held at 11:30 .am. Friday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Chaplain Emily Forman will officiate. Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, is in charge of arrangements.

    Anna E. Lindemuth, 83, of 336 Dutchtown Road, Ashland, passed away Wednesday afternoon at her residence surrounded by her family.
    Born in Shamokin, Feb. 5, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Jennie Quortz Klinger Sr.
    She was a graduate of the former Shamokin High School, and was employed as a nurse's aide at the former Ashland State General Hospital, Fountain Springs, until its closing.
    Anna and her late husband, Gerald, worked together making the family farm a success. She was a member of the Salvation Army, Coal Township.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald M. Lindemuth, on Aug. 29, 1988; a granddaughter, Prisethane Wydra; a sister, Jennie Roth; and brothers, Wilbert, William, John and Harold Klinger.
    Survivors include two daughters, Connie, wife of William Wydra Sr., Ashland, and Donna Lindemuth, Ashland; a son, Robert Lindemuth, Ashland; and grandchildren, William Wydra Jr., Adrienne Wydra, Robert Jones and Amy Curry; great-grandchildren, Cole, Mason and Mia Wydra; and nieces and nephews.
    Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, North Ninth Street, Ashland.   • Some sources record that Samuel Emanuel Klinger was born in November 1850, Pennsylvania.3
  • He married Harriet Isabel Dunkleberger, daughter of George Dunkleberger and Catherine Rebuck, on 11 January 1877, Seven Points, Northumberland County, PA.1,4
  • In 1880, Emanuel and Harriet, along with their one-year old daughter Stella, were living with Harriet's parents, George and Catherine Dunkelberger in Shamokin Township, Northumberland County. Emanuel was working as a farmer.5
  • At the time of the 1900 Census, "Emanuel" and Harriet were living on Catawissa Avenue, in Sunbury, Northumberland County, with 9 of their 10 children. They had been married 24 years.3
  • According to the 1910 Census, Emanuel and Harriet were living in Sunbury, Northumberland County, with 6 of their 10 children. Emanuel was an odd-job laborer, while Claude (age 24) was an agent for a tea company and Fay (age 20) was a weaver in a silk mill. The remaining 4 children were Emma (17), Mary (15), "Mable" (13) and "Donnel" (10).6
  • In 1920, "Samuel" and Harriet were living on Catawissa Avenue in Sunbury, Northumberland County, along with 4 of their adult children -- Earl, Emma, Mary, and Mabel. Samuel worked in a dye works; Earl and Mary worked as weavers in a silk mill. Emma was a bookkeeper at an automobile garage, while Mabel was a clerk in an art store.7
  • Samuel Emanuel Klinger died on 2 July 1923, at age 71.
