    Mattern Rites
    Services for Verna M. Mattern, 85, Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg, formerly of Sacramento, who died Tuesday at Harrisburg Hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento. The Rev. Edwin Brook, Hummelstown, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Sacramento. There will be no calling hours this evening. Buffington Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Mattern was born in Leck Kill, Nov. 24, 1900, a daughter of the late Jordan and Mary Kembel Snyder.
    She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento, Tri-Valley Senior Citizens, and the Sacramento Fire Company Auxiliary.
    Mrs. Mattern was employed by Muskin Shoe Co., Millersburg, before retiring.
    A son, Ray, died in 1979.
    Surviving are her husband, Cloyd Sr., Susquehanna Lutheran Village; a son, Cloyd Jr., Hegins area; four daughters, Esther Schwartz, Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Ruby Smith, Dornsife area, Lena Schwartz, Gratz, and Verna Joan Kessler, Spring Glen; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Mattern, Spring Glen, and Virginia Kelly, Matamoras.

    Cloyd D. Mattern 94, formerly of Sacramento, died Saturday at Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.
    Born in Leck Kill April 23, 1898, he was a son of the late Enoch Fayetta Schreffler Mattern.
    He was a retired farmer and lumberman.
    He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ Sacramento.
    His wife, Verna, died in 1986, and a son, Ray, died in 1979.
    Surviving are a son, Cloyd Jr., RD1 Hegins; four daughters, Esther Schwartz, Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg, Ruby Smith, Selinsgrove, Lena Schwartz, Gratz, and Joan Kessler, Spring Glen; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from St. Paul's United Church of Christ. The Rev. Curtis Zemencik will officiate. Interment, will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Sacramento. There will be no calling hours this evening. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.
