J. M. BOWMAN SUCCUMBS TO LONG ILLNESS
Father-in-Law of Assemblyman Atwater Eveland and Well Known Citizen, Expires at Home Along the Trevorton Road
John Monroe Bowman, life-long resident of this section, esteemed citizen and father-in-law of Assemblyman Atwater Eveland, died at his home along the Trevorton road at 8 o'clock last evening. Death, which was due to a complication of diseases, came after an illness dating back to last December.
During recent weeks the condition of the stricken man had become especially precarious and to loved ones who had been most devoted in their ministrations thruout his prolonged illness, it had been apparent for several days that he could not survive. Death came peacefully last evening to end a useful and honorable life.
The deceased was born at Klingerstown, 66 years ago. He came to Shamokin at an early age and had resided in this section ever since, becoming widely known as a teamster and later as truck driver.
Mr. Bowman was a man of even temperament, devoted in his friendships and enjoyed the respect and esteem of a large number of friends who will be deeply shocked to learn of his death.
Fraternally he was affiliated with Tobin Lodge, 356, Knights of Pythias and Shickalimmy Tribe of Red Men.
Surviving to mourn his passing are the following children: Mrs. Emma Reigle of Irish Valley, Henry of Trevorton, John, Charles, Mrs. Fred Campbell, and Mrs. Atwater Eveland, all of Shamokin. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Kate Irving of Florida, and Mrs. Etta Lupold of Red Cross.
The funeral will be held Monday afternoon with services at the late home at 2 o'clock in charge Rev. Guy Gooderham, pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance church. Burial will be made in the Odd Fellows' cemetery.

- Newspaper obituary:
Death of George Fegley
On Monday about 12:30 p. m., while Edwin Swab of North Second street, and George Fegley of South street, miners employed at Short Mountain colliery, were proceeding down the manway to the gangway to eat their dinner after having fired two shots, they were overcome by powder smoke and fell to the bottom. Swab escaped with a few severe cuts on the left side of the face and head, but Fegley's skull was crushed and he died a few moments after he reached his home. The accident occurred in the White's vein, Short Mountain drift.
Mr. Swab says he was in the lead going down the manway and when he regained consciousness found himself in the dark at the bottom. On lighting his lamp he discovered his companion lying unconscious near him, and by fanning him with his hat endeavored to revive him, but failing in this went for help and had him taken outside, from which point he was conveyed to his [h]ome in the company's ambulance. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and was attended by Lykens Local, No. 1062, U. M. W. of A., and Washington Camp, No. 238, P. O. S. of A., to both of which he belonged, besides a large number of friends and relatives. Services were held in the U. B. church by the pastor, Rev. A. H. Souillard, after which interment was made in Citizens' cemetery.
The floral offerings were numerous and handsome. The pall bearers were William Harper, Harry Trout, David Stence, Samuel Spangler, Henry Holwigand Isaac O. Dietrich. The family desire to thank all who in any way assisted them in their sad affliction.
Deceased was a son of the late James Fegley and was born in Lykens on the 23rd of April, 1858, making his age 43 years, 4 months and 3 days. In July, 1877, he married Emma Bowman at this place, the union being blest with ten children, eight of which, two boys and six girls, whose ages range from three to twenty-one years, together with the wife, survive.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Annie Domschke, sister, of New York city; Charles Fsgley, a brother, of Philadelphia; Monroe Bowman, Shamokin; Henry Zimmerman and wife, Green Ridge ; Mrs. Ed Fegley and two children, Tower City; Jacob Hoffman, wife and children, Williamstown.
