    Allan F. Yoder, 43, who covered presidential politics for the Record in Hackensack, N.J., died Monday of AIDS at Abington Memorial Hospital.
    Mr. Yoder, of Sea Bright, N.J., grew up in Upper Moreland Township and was a 1970 graduate of Pennsylvania State University.
    Mr. Yoder was a state correspondent for the News Tribune of Woodbridge before joining the Record's Trenton bureau in 1974. He became the paper's Washington correspondent four years later.
    He returned to Hackensack as an assignment editor in 1985.
    Survivors: his mother, Helen; son, Michael Weiss, and a brother. Services: visitation, 10 a.m. Monday, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., Abington Baptist Church, 1501 Huntingdon Rd., Abington; burial, Sunset Memorial Park, Somerton.

    Journalist Allan F. Yoder, of an AJDS-related illness
    THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
    HACKENSACK -- Allan F. Yoder, 43, of Sea Bright, an assignment editor at The Record of Hackensack, died yesterday of an AIDS-related illness in a hospital outside Philadelphia.
    Yoder joined The Record's Trenton bureau in 1974 before becoming the paper's Washington correspondent four years later.
    In Washington, Yoder followed presidential candidates around the nation, covering both the Republican and Democratic national conventions. He also reported on the White House and Congress, before returning to Hackensack as an assignment editor in 1985.
    Yoder was a state correspondent for The News Tribune of Wood-bridge (Township) before joining The Record.
    "Allan was a talented journalist and a warm and witty human being. Those of us who were fortunate enough to count him as a friend will miss him greatly," said Vivian Waixel, associate editor at The Record.
    Dick Benfield, editorial page editor, said, "Allen was a total professional who brought great enthusiasm to his job. He understood government, politics, and journalism completely, and he was also a very good friend."
    Before being diagnosed with AIDS in 1989, Yoder and his companion, Wayne Tardiff, became foster parents to an infant left in a hospital in 1987, Michael, who was infected with the virus that causes AIDS. Tardiff died of AIDS in March.
    Yoder, a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, was unable to; work the past several months because of his illness.
    He is survived by his mother, Helen Yoder, of Huntington Valley, Pa; a son, Michael Weiss, at home; and a brother, George, of Warminster, Pa.
