    Pearl (McQuate) Cassel Klinger, 97, of Londonderry Village, Palmyra, PA passed away Monday, July 10, 2023 at the village.
    Born in Myerstown (Lebanon County) PA daughter of the late Paul and Anna (King) McQuate, she was the widow of the late Warren Cassel and Calvin Klinger, Sr. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Barbara McQuate and niece Sharon McQuate.
    Surviving are her son Robert (Barbara) Cassel, Ormond Beach, FL, daughters Janet Witmer, Ormond Beach, FL and Joanne Baylor, Harrisburg, PA. Five grandchildren Aaron McLean (Diana Khuu), Chestertown, MD, Megan McLean (Nick Heilman), Ormond Beach, FL, Alisha Baylor (Beth Dalmut), Washington, DC, Adam (Maria) Baylor, Hershey, PA, Bryon Buckland, Brooklyn, MD, two great-grandchildren River and Wade, and one niece Susan (Donald) Robison, Hershey, PA.

    Also surviving are Calvin’s children and their families, Margaret Albert, Harrisburg, PA, Calvin (Gerrie) Klinger, Jr, St. Augustine, FL, Theodore Klinger, CA, Pattilynn Mullenhour, Harrisburg, PA, Gene (Susan) Klinger, Middletown, PA. Also a deceased daughter Ellen Boyd, TN.
    Pearl dearly loved her family. She would always make the time to be with her children and grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments.
    Pearl was a long-time member of the Spring Creek Church of the Brethren, Hershey, serving on numerous committees and participating in the choirs and senior citizens activities.
    Pearl was a graduate of Hershey High School and Lebanon Business College. She was an administrative secretary in the Hershey School District for 31 years, a member of National Association of Educational Secretaries, PA Association of School Retirees, Palmyra Senior Citizens, Railroad Retirees of Harrisburg, Hershey AARP, Hershey Historical Society and numerous travel groups. She loved to travel and visited countries all over the world.
    The family would like to thank the staff at Londonderry Village, Palmyra, for their compassionate care of Pearl.
    A viewing will be held 10:00 AM Friday, July 14, 2023 at her church, 335 East Areba Avenue, Hershey followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery, Hershey.
    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Spring Creek Church of the Brethren, 335 East Areba Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033.1

    William R. "Bob" Koppenhaver, 78, of Greenwood Road, Tower City, died Saturday at Lebanon Rehabilitation Center.
    Born in Valley View, Dec. 4, 1925, he was a son of the late Clair and Martha Bixler Koppenhaver. He attended Gratz area schools.
    He was an Army veteran of World War II.
    He retired in 1989 as a ceramic tile setter for Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Harrisburg.
    He was a life member of Gratz Veterans of Foreign Wars.
    Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Violet E. Bixler; two daughters, Sandra M. Romberger, Palmyra, and Brenda Stenger, Ashburn, a son, Lynn two brothers, Clair Gratz, and Leroy, Maine; two sisters, Dorothy Weist, Mechanicsburg, and Joan Curtis, Harrisburg; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
    A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from Dimon Funeral Homes Tower City. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

    Violet E. Koppenhaver, 82, formerly of Palmyra and Tower City, passed away Thursday at Twin Oaks Nursing Center, Campbelltown.
    Born July 13, 1930, in Valley View, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Edith Shade Bixler.
    She retired from the garment industry and Williams Valley School District cafeteria.
    Violet attended First Evangelical Congregational Church, Palmyra.
    She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, baking, bowling and playing bingo. Her greatest love was family gatherings and beach vacations.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Koppenhaver, on May 8, 2004; brothers, Raymond, Eugene, Frank and Russel Bixler; and sisters, Eleanor Wetzel and Margaret Hartman.
    Surviving are children, Sandra, wife of Donald Rom-berger, Palmyra, Brenda Stenger, Ashburn, and Virginia and Lynn Koppenhaver, both of Berrysburg; a sister, Ruth Long, California; grandchildren, Kimberly Romberger Marvel, Brian Romberger and Jason Koppenhaver; great-grandchildren, Kort-ney Marvel, Abigail Romberger, Cameron Romberger and Adam Koppenhaver; nieces and nephews.
    A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. May 11 at First Evangelical Congregational Church, 55 Main Palmyra, followed by visitation and luncheon. Private interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sonshine Praise Puppet Ministry; co First Evangelical Congregational Church, 55 Main Palmyra, PA 17078.     John Adam Schlegel, 72, of Valley View, brother of two Donaldson women, died suddenly shortly before noon on Monday while working as a plumber at the Sky-Vu DriveIn Theatre, Gratz.
    Death was due to natural causes, according to Dr. M. L. Herring of the Tri-Valley Medical Center, Valley View.
    Born in Northumberland County on February 11, 1896, Mr. Schlegel was a son of the late James and Lizzie Peiffer Schlegel.
    During World War I, he served with the Allied Forces in Europe. He was affiliated with the United Church of Christ, was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of World War I, the Valley View Fire Company.
    He survived by his wife, the former Mabel Leitzel; four daughters, Irene, wife of Edward Thomas, Beltsville, Md; Arlene, wife of Robert Louthian, Vienna, Va; Grace, wife of Harold a Hatter, Washington, D. C; Alma, wife of LieutenantColonel William Maglin, Frankfurt, Germany; two sons, Guy of Augusta, S. C., and Ray, Washington, D.C; sisters, Mrs. Austn Davis, Klingerstown; Mrs. Ruth Seiger and Mrs. Grace Kramer, Donaldson; five brothers, Allen, Jacob and Samuel, all of Valley View; Roy, Sacramento; Carl, Tower City; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
    His funeral was held this afternoon from Buffington Funeral Home, Valley View, the Rev. Burlington Latshaw officiating. Interment was in Valley View Church of God Cemetery.
