    HERNDON -- J. Eugene Meckley, 83, of RR1 Herndon, died at 7:55 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 1996, at his home.
    He was born July 22, 1913, in Fisherville, a son of the late Frederick J. and Lizzie (Enders) Meckley. On June 10, 1933, in Elizabethville, he married the for mer Beatrice M. Markel.
    Mr. Meckley was a 1929 graduate of Halifax High School.
    He was a farmer, and in 1936 founded Meckley Limestone Products RR1 Herndon, retiring in 1985.
    He was a member of St. Paul's' United Church of Christ Church, Urban, RRt where he was a former consistory member and Sunday teacher.
    Mr. Meckley was active in various state and national business organizations and associations. Also active in soil conserva-director of the J.E. Meckley tion, he was a Northumberland County Extension Service. He had been a 20-year member of the Mahanoy Joint School Board, where he was president for 10 years, during which the present Line Mountain High School building was constructed. He was a member of the Gratz Fair Board for many years and was a long time member of the Herndon Lions Club.
    He was a 32nd-degree Mason and member of the Herndon Lodge 702 Free and Accepted Masons; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley and the Zembo Temple Shrine, both of Harrisburg; and the Lebanon Tall Cedars, Millersburg Forest.
    In addition to his wife, surviving one son, Frederick J. of RR1 Herndon; three daughters, Barbara I. Shaffer of RR1 Herndon, Marcella M. Klinger of Frederick, Md. and Ruth Ann Bollinger of Fairfield, Iowa; four grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; three sisters, Mary Sweigard and Pauline Novinger, both of RR1 Halifax, and Sarah Lenker of RR1 Dalmatia; and one brother, Ralph of Millersburg.
    Mr. Meckley was preceded in death by one brother, Dick.
    A public memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at St Paul's United Church of Christ, Urban, RR1 Herndon, by the Rev. George Heberling. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
    Visitors may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church. A private funeral will be conducted Saturday at the convenience of the family.
    Contributions may be made to the St. Paul's United Church of Christ Church Building Fund, RR1, Box 1615, Herndon, Pa. 17830.

    MILLERSBURG -- Beatrice M. Meckley, 96, formerly of the Herndon area and a resident at Polk Personal Care Center, Millersburg, for six years, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at SUN Home Hospice Care Center in Sunbury Community Hospital, where she was a patient for three days.
    She was born Jan. 6, 1914, in Matterstown in the Lykens Valley, a daughter of the late Benjamin Irvin Markel and Emma Jane (Wirt) Markel. On June 10, 1933, she married J. Eugene Meckley, who preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1996.
    She was educated in Elizabethville area schools.
    Beatrice was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling. She loved her family, especially caring for her children and grandchildren.
    She was a member of St. United Church of Christ Church and the Ladies Aid at Urban. While living in Millersburg, she attended St. Lutheran Church, Millersburg. In her earlier years, she was a member of the Eastern Star at Lykens.
    Surviving are four children and spouses, Barbara Shaffer, Frederick Meckley and wife Anne and Marcella Lowrey and husband Stephen, all of Herndon, and Ruth Ann Bollinger and husband Robert, of Fairfield, Iowa; four grandchildren, Teresa Wynn, Jill Reed, James Meckley and Joellen Dasgupta; eight great-grandchildren, Stefanie and Jennifer Thew, Madeline and Evan Reed, Gabrielle, Julia and Natalia Grace Meckley and Zoe Dasgupta; one great-great-granddaughter, Jayda Sharp; and nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by five sisters, Alice, Stella, Tama, Irene and Carrie; six brothers, William, Edwin, Gideon, Emory, Fred and Jay; and her son-in-law, Glenn Shaffer, who died Jan. 19, 2009.
    Relatives and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. United Church of Christ, Urban, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Sue Marie Baskette officiating. A private viewing will be held for family before the visitation.
    Burial will be in St. UCC Cemetery, Urban.
    Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the St. UCC Building Fund, 1437 Urban Road, Herndon, PA 17830.

    She was a member of Tri-Val-ley Senior Citizens and Gratz Historical Society.
    Preceding her in death were her husband, James W., in 1983; a son, David A., in 1951; a granddaughter, Kim Hornberger, in 1983; a brother, Clifford Rothermel, in 1982.

    Fatally Injured In Highway Crash
    David A. Deibert, age 20, of Sacramento, was fatally injured in a highway accident on route 25 about one mile east of Gratz Monday evening.
    The accident occurred, it was reported, when Deibert's car crashed into the rear of a parked truck. Clarence Wolfgang of Hegins was the operator of the truck which had stopped at a farm for the purpose of loading crates of eggs.
    Deibert was taken to the office of Dr. R. I. Schwalm, Valley View where he was pronounced dead. He suffered a broken neck and other injuries.
    State Police of the Lykens substation investigated the accident.
    Deibert was a native of Gratz and a graduate of the Berrysburg High School, class of 1949.
    He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Deibert of Sacramento; three brothers and a sister, Dale and Ned Deibert and Mrs. Albert Hornberger, all of Sacramento: his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Deibert Sr., of Sacramento, and his great-grandmother, Mrs. Ellen Rothermel of Lykens Township.
    Services will be held from the Buffington Funeral Home, Valley View, at 10 o'clock Friday morning. Rev. Dr. D. I. Sultzbach, pastor of the Sacramento Lutheran Parish will officiate and . interment will be in Union Cemetery at Sacramento.

    He was of the Protestant faith, a life member of the Gratz VFW and the NRA. He was also a member of the Erdman Gun Club, Gratz Fire Company and the Dutchman Sportsman Club.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David A., in 1951.
    Surviving are his wife, Jane E.     Albert Ray Hornberger, age 77, of 1336 W Main St., Valley View, formerly of Lititz, died Saturday, November 18th, 2006 at his residence. He was born in Pitman, on January 31, 1929, a son of the late George E. and Cora M. (Smith) Hornberger. He was a 1947 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School. He was a veteran of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. He retired from Alumax Corp., Mill Products Division, Lancaster, as a Mill Operator and Physical Testing Lab Technician. He was a member the Alumax/Alcoa Retirees Assoc., Tri-Valley Senior Citizens, and the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors. He was of the Protestant Faith. He is survived by his wife Romaine E. (Deibert) Hornberger, to whom he was married for 56 years. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons Kirk D. Hornberger and Kevin R. Hornberger, both of Lititz; two daughters Karen L. Geyer, Manheim and Kay L. Weit, Lititz; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three brothers Charles Hornberger, Weishample, Robert Hornberger, Newport, and Larry Hornberger, Tremont; and one sister Elma Scheib, Hegins. He was preceded in death by a daughter Kim E. Hornberger in 1973 and by a sister Charlotte Taiclet. Funeral services were held at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 24th, with Rev. Curtis Zemencik officiating. A viewing was held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors was made in Brunnerville Cemetery, Brunnerville, Pa.     She was born on Thursday, October 19, 1933, in Pottsville, a daughter of the late William and Juniata Wingert.
    She was a graduate of Pottsville High School.
    Jane was a seamstress in area garment factories, prior to her retirement.
    She attended St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sacramento.
    Jane enjoyed yard work, sewing, and camping.
    Her husband, Nevin D Deibert, passed away in 2008. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Schwartz; a brother, William Wingert, Jr; and a half brother, Harold Rogers.
    She is survived by a son, Paul W Yourshaw of Seltzer; a daughter, Pamela Deibert of Mississippi; four grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Eisenhart of Pottsville, Sara Stephson of Brockton, and Grace Wingert of Pottsville; a brother, James Wingert of Friedensburg; and several nieces and nephews.
    Due to the current health concerns, there will be no services.
    Burial will be made in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
