    Rufus E. Harner
    Rufus Elmer Harner, 75, of Gap St, Valley View, husband of Mrs. Bertha Bateman Harner, died Friday morning in his home after an illness of several years.
    Mr. Harner was born in Hegins Township on Nov. 1, 1888, a son of the late John M. and Elizabeth Morgan Hamer.
    Formerly employed as a mi ner, he was retired since 1952.
    He was a member of the Val ley View Church of God and the UMWA.
    Surviving are, his wife: these children: Viola, wife of Melvin Bixler of Marysville, Pa., Alverta, wife of Norman Morgan of Good Spring, Harold of Hegins, Charles of Donaldson, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ida Hamer of Valley View; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five sisters : Mrs. Emma Huntzinger of Hegins, Mrs. Minnie Neiss of Harrisburg, Mrs. John Wolfgang, Mrs. Clyde Schucker and Mrs. Arthur Morgan, all of Valley View; three brothers, Fred of Tower City, Irvin of Good Spring and Roy of Valley View.
    Funeral will be held Monday morning from Buffington Funer al Home, Valley View. The Rev. James E. Meyers of Columbia, Pa., former pastor of the Church of God at Valley View, will officiate at services. Interment will be in United Brethren Cemetery, Valley View.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Gertrude Harner, 79, of Valley View will be held Thursday afternoon from the Buffington Funeral Home, Valley View.

    Mrs. Harner, widow of Rufus E. Harner, died Monday morning. She was born in Dalmatia, a daughter of the late Charles and Katie (Bingamen) Bateman. Her husband died in 1964.
    Mrs. Harner was a former employe of Star Poultry Co., Valley View. She was a member of the Church of God, Valley View.
    Surviving are two daughters, Viola, wife of Melvin Bixler, Klingerstown RD; Alverta, wife of Norman Morgan, Good Springs; two sons, Harold, Hegins, RD1; Charles, Donaldson; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ida Koppenhaver, Valley View; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Alice Schreffler, Star Route, Valley View; Eva Bateman, Valley View; five brothers, Dorsey Bateman, Hegins RD1; Harold and Charles Bateman, both of Hegins; Roy and Melvin Bateman, both of Valley View.

    Samuel C. Croutharmel, Dalmatia R. D. 1, died Sunday at 9:30 a. m., at his home at the age of 74 years. In ill health for the past three months, he had been bedfast a week.
    Mr. Croutharmel was born on March 27, 1880 in Lower Mahanoy Township, a son of the late Levi and Johanna Spotts Croutharmel. He was a farmer all his life.
    He married the former Mary Zipf, of Bristol, S. D., in 1912.
    Survivors include his wife, a step-son, Clarence Miller, Trevorton; eight children, Mrs. Martin Meiers, Webster, S. D; Leo Croutharmel, Dalmatia R. D; Mrs. Howard Lebo, Clinton, Md; Raymond Croutharmel[,] Hickory Corners; Mrs. James Clough, Dalmatia R. D; William Croutharmel, Harrisburg; Mrs. Luther Walborn, Phoenix, Arizona, and Arvin Croutharmel, Dalmatia R. D. Twenty grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Bitterman, Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Willis Bingaman, Philadelphia, also survive.
    Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. from the Edwin Hoover funeral home, Dalmatia, in charge of Rev. John R. Bucher, pastor of Uniontown Reformed Parish. Burial will be in Stone Valley cemetery, Dalmatia R. D. Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p. m.
