    Austin S. Furman, 97, formerly of Tremont, Pennsylvania passed away on September 21, 2022 in Tucson, Arizona. Born August 27, 1925 in Tremont, (Schuylkill County) Pennsylvania to Asher and Elizabeth (nee Bessie Young) Furman where he lived until he enlisted in the US Navy after high school graduation in 1943.
    His 3 years of military duty included 2 years as a gunnery mate on a PT boat (affectionately named the "Stray Lamb") on the Mediterranean Sea against enemy underwater missiles. He was honorably discharged in April, 1946. An article in the Harrisburg Pennsylvania Evening News on March 11, 1983 referred to the servicemen on PT boats as the Navel Daredevils of WWII.
    He is survived by his wife of 73 years, retired Pennsylvania attorney Marian Schwalm Furman, Tucson, AZ; niece Lori (Brent) Keener, Hummelstown, PA; nephew Craig (Lydia) Furman, Owings Mills, MD; and his wife's nieces and nephew.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Covert and Glenn Furman.
    He was employed for 40 years as a petroleum distillate products analyst for the same pipeline which changed hands over the years and now is part of British Petroleum.
    He was a dedicated US war history buff and maintained an impressive collection of books on the subject.
    Austin and his wife Marian moved from Pennsylvania in 1991 and split time between Taos, NM and Tucson, AZ before permanently settling in Tucson.
    During Austin's final days he received excellent care from the hospice staff at Peppi's House in Tucson. Memorial contributions can be made to Peppi's House, 5301 East Grant Rd, Tucson, AZ 85712.
    A memorial service will be held at Fort Indiantown Gap in Annville, PA on August 3, 2023 at 11:30.2

    Barbara A. (Schwalm) Black, wife of the late Lex I. Black, 78, passed away from Breast Cancer on Thursday, October 30, 2008. She battled this disease with courage and strength over a period of 36 years.
    Born on August 24, 1930 in Valley View, PA, she was the daughter of H. Allen Schwalm and Grace (Spotts) Schwalm. Barbara is survived by daughter - Bonnie O'Kane; son - Keith Black and wife Anne (McDonald) and daughter - Gail Black; sister - Marian (Schwalm) Furman and husband Austin; granddaughter - Kristin O'Kane; cousin and devoted friend - Reeta (Schwalm) Otto and husband, George.
    Barbara retired from the Harrisburg Police Department. Over the years, she was employed by the Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg School District, Uptown Senior Citizens Center, American Red Cross and Sam's Club. She served as Secretary on the Senior Citizens Center's Board of Directors and was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross Safety Programs Clinic. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for over fifteen years as a First Aid Instructor and as a First Aid Instructor trainer. She also received the Hall of Fame Award for outstanding and unselfish service in the field of First Aid.
    A viewing will be held at the Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109 on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 from 10-11 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Internment is private.

    He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bill received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal. He was a hot-end operator at Chatanooga Glass for 32 years. He later worked at the Corsicana YMCA in maintenance for 17 years. He loved being with his family and friends, and helping people in any way he could. He spent many hours reading the Bible.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Eugene (Bobby) Bergey; and his parents-in-law, Horace and Dessie Hayes.
    He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dortha R. Bergey; son, Bobby Bergey and daughter, Barbara Bergey Strmiska; granddaughters, Brandy Bergey, Blair Bergey, Joscelyn Vandeventer, Jaelyn Bergey; grandson, Jonathan Bergey; great-granddaughters, Abilgayle Castaneda, Rhea Vandeventer, Khylei Vandeventer; and great-grandson, Tayeghon Hodges, all of Corsicana; three sisters, Connie Scheib, Mechanicsburg; Joyce Scicchitano, Prospect Park, PA and Joanne Stiely, Hegins. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
    Services were held Friday, Sept. 24, at St. Luke United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bruce Carpenter officiating. Interment was in Resthaven Cemetery.

    Born in Klingerstown, June 24, 1944, he was a son of the late Harry and Evelyn Klinger Stiely. He was raised by the late Mary Rohrbach.
    He was a 1963 graduate of Tri-Valley High School and a 1965 graduate of Williamsport Tech.
    He had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for Frank Krammes Excavating, Sacramento, and Pine Creek Coal Co., Spring Glen.
    He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins, where he had served as a former Elder.
    He was also a member and past master of F&AM Valley Lodge 797, Valley View, and a member of the Harrisburg Consistory.
    He was preceded in death by four brothers, Perry, Guy, Glenn, and an infant brother; a sister, Donna; and a foster sister, Eileen.
    He is survived by his wife, Joanne G. Bergey Stiely, to whom he was married 44 years; a son, Kris L. Stiely and his wife, Vickie, Fearnot; a daughter, Terri J. Herb and her husband, Dean, Halifax; two grandsons, John M. Stiely and Ben W. Stiely, both of Fearnot; two granddaughters, Nikki M. Herb and Heidi E. Herb, both of Halifax; eight brothers, George, Jesse, Donald, Harry, Jimmy, Bobby, Paul and Ivan; a foster brother, Stuart; four sisters, Esther, Nancy, Beverly and Alpha; and a foster sister, Lessie.
    Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins, with the Rev. Claude Schach officiating. Masonic services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. The family will receive guests from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to , 225 N. Schwalm preceded her in death in 1988.
    She is survived by a son, Roger S. Schwalm and wife Linda of Shippensburg Pennsylvania, a daughter Patricia D. Driscoll and her partner Dean Passmore of Vancouver, Washington, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Services and interment will be private.
