Funeral home obituary:
Arlan G. Wiest
July 1, 1938 ~ January 3, 2025 (age 86)
Arlan G. Wiest 86, of Enola Pa, went peacefully to be with the lord on Friday January 3, 2025. He was the son of Homer Wiest and Vesta Paul and was born in Klingerstown, Pa.
He grew up in Lykens, Pa and graduated from the Lykens High School. He worked at the Fleet Material Support Office, a branch of the Naval Support Activity, in Mechanicsburg Pa. He continued his education at HACC where he achieved certifications in systems design and analysis which provided him the foundation for a successful career in IT.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Wiest, with who he shared 66 years of marriage, his brother Bernard Wiest of Halifax, 3 children Cindy Haas, Timothy Wiest (Susan), Scott Wiest (Michelle Darhower), 6 grandchildren Danielle Haas Rhoads, Samantha Hatcher (Nate), Kylie Wiest (Ben Anderson), Cara Hoke (Steve), Jena Yankowich (Chris), Derek Wiest, 3 great grandchildren Ava Hatcher, Drake Hatcher, and Jackson Rhoads, and another great grandchild “on the way” that he was excited to meet. While he had his ups and downs, nothing made him beam more than to be around his grandkids and great grandkids.
When not working, his passion was to be in the great outdoors with family and friends. He lived for hunting, fishing, camping, or just hiking in the woods. He was an avid outdoorsman and was rewarded with hunting and fishing success countless times in Pa. His passion took him to the Wiest Yo-Yo camp in Powells Valley, state parks all over PA, on trips to Idaho, Alaska, Colorado, Wyoming, the jetties of Indian River Inlet and the shoreline of Assateague Island.
His love for the mountains led him to build a cabin at Raystown Lake where you would find him pursuing whitetails, turkey, grouse and bear, or fishing in the lake and Trough Creek state park.
Arlan and Shirley were competitive square dancers and won Blue Ribbons at the Farm Show arena. Also, in their younger years they spent a lot of time together at the Mechanicsburg Sportsmanship (club) Association (MSA). You would find them there shooting in archery leagues or just enjoying many of the outdoor activities offered. The club is also where he taught his children how to hunt and fish. Because of his love for the outdoors and his lifetime membership in MSA, in lieu of flowers, please donate to Mechanicsburg Sportsmanship Association 493 Sample Bridge, Pa 17025. The club uses the donations to fund their youth fishing, archery and gun programs.
A memorial service will be held on Friday January 10, 2025 at St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6839 Wertzville Rd, Enola Pa 17025. The service will begin at 11:00am with visitation starting at 10:00am. There will be a celebration of life that follows at the Enola Sportsmans Club, 290 Pine Hill Rd EXT, Enola Pa 17025, where he was a member for many years. He will be laid to rest in the Perry Heights Cemetery in Marysville, Pa.3
He was buried at Perry Heights Cemetery, Marysville, Perry County, PA.3
