    He was admitted Easter Sunday, following a year's illness.
    Born in Buck Run, March 5, 1921, he was a son of the late Joseph and Elsie (Bowers) Clews.
    The deceased was a sergeant in the Army Field Artillery and served in the Pacific Theater during the war. For the last several years, he was employed by Glen Burnie Utilities, Glen Burnie, Md.
    Survivors include his wife, the former Beatrice Morris, Centralia; two daughters, Betty Jean and Linda Clews, at home; five brothers and one sister, Jacob Clews, Oceanside, Calif; Clair Clews and Mrs. Fred (Laura) Kline, Centralia; William Clews, Glen Burnie; Charles Clews, Green Ridee; Calvin Clews, Mt. Carmel.
    The funeral will be Monday from the Rothermel Funeral Home, 1200 South Market street, Mt. Carmel. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Centralia.

    Louis H. Morris, 81, of 1111 Bear Valley Road, Coal Township, formerly of Mount Car mel, died Tuesday at Shamokin Area Community Hospital.
    Born in Centralia, Nov. 22, 1926, he was a son of the late Louis A. and Emily Conrad Morris.
    He was a graduate of Hubert Eicher High School, Centralia.
    A Navy veteran of World War II, he served aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Intrepid and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with one star and the World War II Victory Medal.
    He married his wife, the former Agnes Martin, on Aug. 2, 1952, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
    Louis retired from Hanover Brands Inc., Bloomsburg.
    He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Ashland.
    He was preceded in death by his wife on March 28, 1997; a brother, William Morris, who died during World War II; and three sisters, Beatrice Clews, Jean Jordan and Betty Noble.
    Surviving are three daughters, Cheryl and her husband, James McDonald, Harrisburg, Louanne Drumheiser, Mount Carmel, and Carol and Robert Bainbridge, Coal Township; a son, Louis Morris and his wife, Gina, Mount Carmel; seven grandchildren, Britni, Christopher, Robert, Nicole, Austin, Claudia and Louis; nieces and nephews.
    Religious services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Centralia. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Donations are to be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, Ashland, co North Parish, P.O. Box 487, Frackville, PA 17931.

    Mr. and Mrs. Morris Receive Purple Heart
    Mr. and Mrs. Louis Morris, of Myers street, Centralia, have received the Purple Heart decoration awarded posthumously to their son, Pfc. William J. Morris, Infantryman, who sacrificed his life In defense of his country.
    Pfc. Morris, who was with the 45th Division, saw action in Italy up to the liberation of Rome and then landed with the U. S. Invasion forces in France. His division, known as the Thunderbirds, is a part of General Patch's famous Seventh Army. In Italy, Pfc. Morris was awarded the Combat Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.
    Well known throughout the community, Pfc. Morris was reported missing in action on September 1 and later was reported killed in action on that date in France.
    He was inducted on March 4, 1943, and received his basic training at Fort Jackson. He went overseas in September.
    The letter from Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson, announcing the posthumous award, follows:
    "At the request of the President, I write to inform you that, the Purple Heart has been awarded posthumously to your son, Pfc. William J. Morrs, Infantry, who sacrificed his life in defense of his country.
    "Little that we can do or say will console you for the death of your loved one. We profoundly appreciate the greatness of your loss, for in a very real sense the loss suffered by any of us in this battle for our country, is a loss shared by all of us. When the medal, which you will shortly receive, reaches you, I want you to know that with it goes my sincerest sympathy, and the hope that time and the victory of our cause will finally lighten the burden of your grief."
