  • Grace Estella Huntzinger was baptized on 30 April 1905, Friedens Reformed Church, Hegins, Schuylkill County, PA. The parents were listed as "Harvey & Clara" Huntzinger. It does not appear that Harvey and Clara were married. Harvey married Katie Maus at Friedens Church in Hegins, PA, on 16 Mar 1904, almost 7 months before Grace was born. According to the 1910 Census, this was the first marriage for both partners. Clara married Irvin E. Smith at Friedens Church in Hegins, PA, on 20 Feb 1909. According to the 1910 Census, this was the first marriage for both partners. Grace E. "Smith" was listed in the 1910 Census in Irvin and Clara's household as 5 years old, whereas Irvin and Clara had been married for only about 1 year.5,6,7

    Grace E. Smeltz, 79, of the Lykens area, died Friday at home.
    Born in Valley View, Oct. 30, 1904, she was a daughter of the late Irvin and Clara Bassler Smith.
    Mrs. Smeltz was a member of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ and its Friendship Circle, Spring Glen.
    Her husband, Daniel, and a daughter, Marie, preceded her in death.
    Surviving are two daughters, Ruth Beissel, Millersburg area, and Shirley Brosius, Halifax area; two sons, Robert, Millersburg area, and Russell, Lykens area; two sisters, Sarah Wetzel, Klingerstown area, and Clara Carl, Hegins; a brother, Jesse Smith, Hegins area; 15 grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from St. Matthew's United Church of Christ with the Rev. Paul Gerhart officiating. Interment will be in St. Matthew's United Church of Christ Cemetery. Robert Miller Funeral Home, Valley View, has charge.
