Martin Bowers, 68, of Middleport, passed away Wednesday at his residence surrounded by his loving family, losing a courageous battle of 2 1/2 years with colon cancer.
Born in Pottsville, June 30, 1950, he was a son of the late Martin and Theresa Hart Bowers.
He was a graduate of Blue Mountain High School, Class of 1968.
A veteran of 10 years with Company B 6bn 68th Armor, Army Reserve, Schuylkill Haven, he was a member of American Legion Post 144, Middleport.
He was a retired welder of Dana Corp.
Marty was known as Pap to his grandchildren, also known as pappy to many children who came to his house. His personal passion was decorating his house for the holiday season.
Marty is survived by wife of 48 years, Eileen Rigney Bowers; two sons, Jonathan Bowers and wife, Angela, and grandchildren, Kyler and Ryder, Cumbola, and Jason Bowers and wife, Kelly, and grandson, Braxton, Middleport; a sister, Deb and husband, Dennis Somes, Schuylkill Haven; aunts, Rosemary (Liz) Daugherty Dauberville, and Peggy Hudock, Beaver Falls; nieces and nephews.
As to abide with Marty's wishes, all funeral arrangements will be private and the convenience of the family. Thomas J. Bartashus Funeral Home, New Philadelphia, is in charge of Marty's wishes.
