Martha Francis Herb, 84, of 231 E. Main St., Hegins, passed away Wednesday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born May 21, 1928, in Valley View, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Lena Morgan Shade.
She worked at the former Muskin Shoe Co., Millersburg, prior to her retirement.
She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View.
Martha enjoyed shopping, baking, camping and loved the beach. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia A. Erdman; and five brothers, Alvin, Jim, Mark, William and Gary Shade.
She is survived by her husband, John L. Herb, to whom she was married for 68 years; a son, Jack L. Herb and his wife, Jean, Hegins; three grandsons, Troy Erdman, Enola, Brad Erdman, Palmyra, and Jeremy Erdman, Valley View; three granddaughters, Nicole Poletti, Valley View, Julie Rizzardi, Conshohocken, and Amanda Horoschak, Hegins; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Beard, Selinsgrove, and Phyllis Simititus, West West Terrace; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, with the Rev. Duane Bardo officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be no viewing. Interment will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Valley View. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.

John L. Herb, 92, of Schuylkill Center, Pottsville, formerly of Hegins, passed away Friday at the center.
He was born in Spring Glen, March 10, 1926, a son of the late Ash Herb and the late Crusie M. Carl Herb.
John served in the Army during World War II from 1944-46.
He ran a small carpet business, but most of his working career was spent in the trucking industry. He had also worked at the former Penn Reel, Hegins.
John and his wife enjoyed camping and spending time in their winter home in Daytona Beach, Fla. They enjoyed family gatherings and reunions. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family and golfing when he was able to do so. John was a sports fan and enjoyed watching various sports. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
He attended St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View.
His wife, Martha F. Shade Herb, to whom he was married for 68 years, passed away in 2013. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Patricia A Erdman.
He is survived by a son, Jack L. Herb and his wife, Jean, Hegins; three grandsons, Troy Erdman and his wife, Kim, Enola, Brad Erdman and his wife, Kristen, Columbus, Ohio, and Jeremy Erdman and his wife, Nikki, Valley View; three granddaughters, Nicole Poletti and her husband Mike, Valley View, Julie Rizzardi and her husband, Cory, Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Amanda Horoschak and her husband Matthew, Hegins; 13 great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, with the Rev. Duane Bardo officiating. Burial will be made in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Valley View. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the John L. Herb Memorial Fund, c/o St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, P.O. She was a 1936 graduate of the former Hegins Township High School, and had worked at the former Amy Sportswear, Valley View.
Irene was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, and a former member of the Tri-Valley Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood E. Erdman; son, Colin E. Erdman; daughter-in-law, Patricia Erdman; two brothers, Albert and Warren Schwalm.
She is survived by a son, Elwood E. Erdman, Hegins; two daughters, Alice M. Deitrich, Meriden, Conn., and Susan P. Runkle, Spring Glen; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Romberger.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, with a memorial service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Duane Bardo officiating. Frederick Edward Schwalm, 71, husband of Clara Klouser Schwalm, 619 W. Broad St, Williamstown, died at his home Sunday evening.
Born in Hegins Twp., June, 18, 1893, he was a son of the late Daniel and Nora Snyder Schwalm. He was employed at the Keystone Tap and Reamer Works, Millersburg, prior to his retirement in July, 1964. He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Valley View.
Surviving are his wife, a son Warren, Williamstown ; two daughters, Irene, wife of Elwood Erdman, Valley View; Bernice, wife of Robert Romberger, Lykens, RD; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford Schwalm, Valley View; Lanston Schwalm, Brookhaven, Chester; two sisters. Mrs. Mary Updegrave, Valley View, and Mrs. Howard Miller, Glen Rock, Wyoming.
Funeral services will be held at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Valley View, on Thursday afternoon. The Rev. Gordon Oplinger, Valley View, will officiate, assisted by Rev. He was a quality control employee for the former Hegins Precision Division of Penn Reel, Hegins, and had worked at Solar Innovations, Pine Grove until his retirement.
He served as a communications officer in the US Army in Germany during the Viet Nam War.
He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View.
Colin enjoyed fishing, hunting, attending sporting events, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia A. Herb Erdman in 2009.

The one thing that best describes Grandma is LOVE. She had a special love for her husband, her three boys, her grandchildren, and even her grand dogs. She had a love for this community, where she was born, raised, and lived out her days with her family. The love that she showed all of us will be what we cherish and how we will always remember her.
She is survived by her husband, Colin E Erdman, to whom she was married for 41 years.
