James M. Spittle, 89, of Herndon, passed away on September 24, 2023, at the Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital. He was born in Williamstown on March 31, 1934, a son of Catherine and Edward Spittle.
He was a retired military serving in the Marines from February 14, 1954 to February 4, 1956 in the 8th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Topographic Company stationed at Camp Geiger, Camp Lejeune, NC then later serving in the PA National Guard from June 15, 1963 to December 31, 1993 in the 193rd Special Operations Group, Middletown, PA. He was a member of the Herndon Senior Center, VFW Post 2385, Gratz, PA Trappers Association and attended and taught Sunday School at Zion EC Church in Pitman.
James is survived by his two daughters, Dee (Dale) Erdman, Sharon (Mike) Schade; son, Michael (Donna) Spittle; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Spittle.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in the Union Cemetery, Pillow.¹
He was buried at Union Cemetery, Jordan Township, Northumberland County, PA.²

     Doris A. Brown was born on 12 April 1936, Lykens, Dauphin County, PA.¹ She married James M. Spittle.¹ Doris A. Brown died on 22 March 2007, at age 70.¹ She was buried at Union Cemetery, Jordan Township, Northumberland County, PA.¹
